Xbox became my primary platform in the early 2000s, because of Halo. From there, I just got used to the controller, and I continue to be a fan of Halo. I've also been a game pass subscriber for a little over 6 years now, and that adds a whole lot of value for me. Also, in this particular generation, I liked the lower price point of the series S. That made it a lot easier to justify picking up a second Xbox for my bedroom. Having two of my primary console is moderately important to me.
However, I have owned every major system since Atari 2600, except for Playstation 3 and Vita. I skipped those because at that point in my life I just wasn't gaming enough to justify the purchases. So, while Xbox is my primary, I'm not missing anything on any system.
Unless I'm going to be able to play Halo on Playstation or Switch on day one, and game pass becomes available on one of those systems, I don't see myself switching away from Xbox as my primary platform. I suppose I might consider it if I get to a point where I need to reduce my spending on video games. If I could choose only one platform to buy, right now, it probably would not be Xbox.

At this point, just previous library and Gamepass.
Hoping that rumours and speculation about a pc hybrid releasing next year or later are true.

It had Halo. Bungie-era Halo was probably my favorite non-Nintendo game series at the time. I'd argue it still is. I played a ton of Halo CE & Halo 2 over at a friend's house, and we had a bunch of LAN parties for Halo CE back in the day. I didn't have my own Xbox until I moved in with one of those friends and he let me use his second Xbox as a hand-me-down.
By time 2007 rolled around and the buildup to Halo 3 started, I had been using Nintendo systems as my primary consoles for nearly two decades. Also at that point, for two generations straight, PlayStation was for me "the console that Final Fantasy is on now" for the most part, and the brand didn't have much appeal to me beyond that. But with the PS3 being too expensive and Nintendo going with the underpowered Wii, that pretty much left the 360 as the go-to option not just for Halo but for third-party games as well. The 360 ended up being my main console that generation.
I switched to the PS4 as my main at the start of last generation, but ever since the Xbox One X came out I've been kinda going back and forth between Xbox and PlayStation as to which "conventional" console was the one I played the most. Right now, most of my backlog is on PS5. With MS taking the "kinda-sorta third-party" approach by putting more and more of their games on PlayStation but not so much the other way around (basically just MLB The Show, which MLB forced them to, and Helldivers II a live-service game). I'm likely to just forgo Xbox entirely next generation.

Not for my main console, but I bought the One S really cheap, 6 or 7 years ago to play a few games I hadn't played and to get Rare Replay.
I dont have a main platform as I play equally or close to it across Nintendo, Playstation, Xbox, and PC with a pinch of iOS
The reason why I'm continuing using Xbox is because of the b/c titles and games I own through my account.

For me...
1) AA battery support in the controllers, I don't need to deal with opening up the controller and replacing a dead lithium battery... Or live a cabled controller life. - Which provides longevity.
2) Backwards compatibility with a insignificant amount of OG Xbox games... Decent amount of Xbox 360 games and the full compliment of Xbox One games, often with enhancements.
3) Optical CD support.
In saying that, Microsoft has turned it's back on Physical... And as such, I have reduced the number of games I typically purchase... This point in the Xbox One lifecycle I had several hundred games.
Xbox Series? About 40.
But, I buy and own all platforms, I am not an exclusive Xbox gamer... I definitely game on PC the most.

Cheating somewhat here as I'm not primarily an Xbox player, but when I did choose to buy the only Xbox console that I have, (360) it was due to a couple reasons:
1- Appealing exclusives like Gears of War, Halo, and Mass Effect.
2- I wanted to play games like Bioshock and Dead Space and the 360 offered the superior console versions.
3- Had previous positive experiences with Xbox and my parents got me and my brother an OG Xbox when we were in high school.
