Forums - Gaming Discussion - Switch pro controller is the best!

Owning a ps5, series s and recently a switch, I have to say i'm loving the pro controller. Strictly talking comfort and not features, it's the best to hold by far. The xbox is the worst by far, it feels cheaply made, and buttons are too loud. Ps5 is comfortable, feels premium but it is slightly bulky. I preferred the dual shock 4 size, because when I hold the dual sense naturally, when I place my fingers on the shoulder buttons, it feels a little streched out.  It could be the depth size is a little too large. On the switch pro, it all feels perfect. My hand never tires, feels premium,  battery charge lasts for ages. I can't fault it. I wish sony would make a smaller controller.

Agreed.

Got two of them as a matterfact.

I love the TotK themed pro controller, looks sharp. The halo themed Series controllers feels nicer to hold though thanks to the added texture on the grips (the regular ones don't feel so good) However the Series controllers are very heavy though compared to the DS and Pro controller (I use rechargeable batteries, adds to the weight I guess) And yeah the DS is slightly bigger than the pro controller, not a big issue since the left analog stick is also lower. It it were asymmetric like the Series and Pro controllers it would be uncomfortable to hold my thumb in that spot.

Now can MS/Sony/Nintendo not make a decision on where accept and cancel should be, can't we standardize that finally. So many times I press B in TotK to accept, just backing out of the menu or cancelling again. And why does XBox have Y and X, A and B swapped around vs the Pro controller??? Then Sony has X at the bottom, Nintendo X at the top, MS X on the left, argh.

I honestly prefer the 8-bit Ultimate Controller for Switch instead. Better built, Hall effect Joysticks. Back button Macros. Same price. The only downside is no NFC. The Ultimate is the best controller I have ever used. If I have one nitpick I wish the Dpad was like the Series X controller. It took 26 years but someone beat the Saturn Dpad as the best ever.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Yes, it's one of the best controls for sure. I would rank it second all-time behind the XB2 controller. The only gripe I have with it is its d-pad, but then, I don't think a dual stick controller has come out yet that matches the 2-D controllers of the past in that department... which is really puzzling. I think the dual shock 1-3 got close, but still. Not quite there.

Yeah I got the Totk controller, looks great. Love the metalic gold patterns against the black and white. Prob my fav design in a loong time.

It's easily the best controller I ever owned, not counting K+M combo of course. The size, shape, button layout, trigger feel and response, and the simple look and finish are 100% brilliance. The weight is also perfect; not too light and not too heavy. Xbox controllers have only gotten worse since Xbox 360, which had amazing controllers (the Nintendo Pro reminds me a lot of these in shape and heft). PS controllers have been mostly okay, but nothing more, the DS4 was a huge letdown, with the annoying touchpad and the useless lights that ate battery time, the DS3 was way too heavy and too small for my hands. I've yet to buy a PS5, so I have no opinion on the controller, but I've heard mostly good things.

Oddly enough, the worst of the bunch is Nintendo though, their main controllers for three consoles in a row have been absolutely horrible for me. Not to mention the insane pricing (I remember when Wii-mote + Nunchuck set you back around 130$ here) and technical issues with them. But, the Pro controller makes up for all of it. I hope it'll be fully compatible with their next console as well! I tried making mine work on Windows 11, but gave up and am now using a standard Xbox One controller instead.

Great controller. Not a huge fan of the Playstation controller setup. Touch pad is stupid. Symmetrical analogs are not my thing.

True, The standard controllers that come with the Switch are the most ergonomically unfriendly things since the Move controllers. And also with technical issues. The WiiU gamepad didn't feel too bad to hold, but developed stick drift as well ugh. (Actually no, Fast Racing Neo physically hurt to play on the gamepad, cramping my hands after a single race) The Wiimote plus Nunchuck will forever be defined in my mind by "Communal crotch flaying" https://www.eurogamer.net/family-ski-review And yep that's exactly what happens when playing that lol.

If I was even more cynical, I would say Nintendo does it on purpose to sell actual controllers on the side... (Instead of a home console offering of the Switch with pro controller included)

The Dualsense is ok, definitely better than the DS4. And I still enjoy symmetrical sticks more for 3rd person games where you use both sticks all the time. The PSVR2 controllers are much nicer though. I wish you could use them for flat games as well, however they lack a D-pad so would be difficult to use as a straight swap.

Really? It feels the cheapest one of the three to me, though it might be because mine is also the oldest.

Edit - actually, comparing them right now I think the Xbox feels the cheapest despite a nice weight to it. Still has a better grip and triggers than the Pro, though. Dualsense just feels premium overall though the buttons could be higher up like the Pro, and not falling off the corners.
