Your delusions regarding how MS is prioritizing xCloud versus local hardware doesn’t magically make the XSX a non-traditional console. We should have contained this nonsense to one thread 😬

This.

The truth of the matter is that Microsoft has a monumental track record when it comes to over-promising and under-delivering. To suggest that they don't care about selling consoles is not true. I'd like to hear them say that to their investors. It seems like so many people lack the basic ability to be skeptical when being fed information from a source that is trying to market their own product. Of course they are going to try and hype it up. But the amount of bullshit Microsoft has tried to pass off as legit should be downright illegal.

Does anyone remember Project Natal? Jesus, all of their tech demonstrations were entirely acted out. I still remember that tech demo where the girl had a conversation with Milo, and Milo responded back to her in a non-computerized voice. As though Microsoft had created an AI capable of understanding and holding a conversation with someone without sounding robotic. And this was a decade ago. Even today, the very best in digital voice synthesis (Siri, Alexa) is still easy to distinguish from an actual human, and they are nowhere near capable of retaining memories and having an emotional conversation as depicted in the Milo demo.

I dunno, but I've always sort of noticed a layer of BS when it comes to their marketing.

I guess it all depends on what you consider a traditional console. If Nvidia launches a 40Tflops console that cost $2000, would that be a traditional console? Imo a traditional console is something that's designed for mass market penetration with a tolerable price and has games that're specifically designed for that platform. We don't know the price of Series X yet, but if it's $599 or more I'm sure MS knows it will never sell 100m units.

We'll have to wait and see but MS is definitely changing the rules of what a next gen console launch has always been like. Instead of pushing console sales, they are more consumer friendly, giving people options on which device they want to play their games on, and are making their services like Gamepass/ Xcloud their top priority.

So 100m units is the deciding factor if a console is a traditional console?

Well, I guess in that case Sega Master System, Genesis, DreamCast, NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii U, PS3, Xbox and Xbox 360 weren't traditional consoles either.

No, not all consoles sell 100m units but building an install base is something that all platform holders have traditionally been aiming for. Price and exclusives is how almost every console in history has tried to do that. However, we've never had a new console launch with the company behind it saying "We don't need to sell you this to reach our business goals" and make all their exclusives cross-gen. For better or worse, MS is running with a completely different strategy next gen.

And yet this thread was made despite only having speculation. Users like zero and myself merely responding to negative and arguable speculation, just like users like you can respond to my speculation.

It's not speculation when everything I said were just quotes from Phil Spencer. These are all facts

  • MS wants to be the netflix of gaming and says we won't be playing on dedicated consoles/ pc anymore in about 10 years time.
  • MS Does not care if you buy the Series X as they can reach their business goal regardless, which is building GP subscibers for their glorious Cloud future
  • They want to reach as broad a audience as possible with GP and are therefore making all their 1st party games cross-gen and scalable across their family of devices

The only thing we don't know with 100% certainty is how the games will scale. But using the lowest common tech denominator makes the most sense if they are aiming to reach as many gamers as possible. That's also just a scientific fact. Unless, of course, they are planning to sell 100m Series X's and sell it for $399. So maybe we should just wait till they announce a price, because then things will probably become a lot more clearer.

This is the same nonsense you were spewing in that other thread that got nuked out of existence.

Spencer said we will be playing on hardware for “the next decade plus”. That could be 40 years for all we know. He’s also said local hardware will ALWAYS be superior to streaming and that streaming is just a convenience. You know he said these things, we reminded you in the other thread and probably this one too.

You like to cite the interview Stinkles gave about Halo Infinite and how it “will run well on Xbone” as evidence that they are building the game around Xbone and then just upgrading some visuals for XSX. You ignore the part in that same interview where he says developers aim for the best hardware because it doesn’t fit your agenda.

The first party games are only cross gen for a max of 12-13 months. Doesn’t sound like the grand scheme you’re making it out to be.

When games become all cloud and publishers can take them down anytime they want and have full control. There is no craft anymore. It's just disposable marketable digital playgrounds designed purely around making money by nickel and diming. People will not appreciate a craft anymore esp as there will be none, but even for the few that are a work of craftsmanship, it won't matter. Just treat it as something disposable. Nothing will be valued anymore. I will not part take in that "future"

Having seen what's been going on with GFN and Nvidia, Cloud gaming doesn't even look at all like any sort of craft. Cloud gaming looks like a semi playground, only the massive players make the rules and constantly rule over said playground, giving very little room for competition and at the same time stifling what we can/cannot play. Also mod support would be completely and utterly killed, and that's not something I ever want to see with gaming.

Cloud gaming looks like an insane nightmare.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

With how Google, Microsoft, or Valve envision the future of videogaming... no, i don't want that.

And yet Steam is one of the best consumer friendly gaming stores in this buisness.. id trust Valves vision over the console market.

That's what's unsettling about the whole situation. Many people like you who condone flodding the market with garbage products, calling it "consumer friendly", paving the way for low(est) effort high yield business.

Why else would Google consider some indie trash would be worthy timed exclusives.

And you think Steam is the only platform that offers trash indies?

Have you played Black Tiger on your PS4 yet?

Steam doesn't change its direction for the sake of sales unlike the console industry. Its still traditional gaming from how it was 15+ years ago.

Every company is full of shit. I could make a list. You want a list?

I, for one, would enjoy a cloud option. I have no intention of getting the next xbox but I think every console should give gamers more opportunities to enjoy the product. Physical and digital are here to stay too and that's fine.
