Forums - Gaming Discussion - Stadia's game prices are very high according to Eurogamer

What a surprise.....Looks like Yong was mostly correct about the pricing, but I'm still not sure he wasn't just making an educated guess.

Everyone had a Google+ account back in the day, and that didn't help it at all.

A different product in different circumstances performed differently.

Imagine Nintendo would offer streaming. Not just plebeian style but running games on OC hardware so you can stream BotW in real 4K60fps*.

*14.99$ month SuperStream deal, limited offer.

I'm not sure what you mean with that comparison, but if Nintendo released a streaming service... it would still have all the drawbacks of all streaming services: lack of ownership, limitations of users' internet speeds, performance issues not present in physical hardware, not being able to play without an internet connection, dependance to a monthly fee... And if Nintendo released it with a similar weak lineup and pricing model, people's reactions would be pretty much the same.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I hope Google makes this thing work. I don't want them to poison the streaming well. It's not gonna get my money at this point though.

That's a perfect example of what digital only market is gonna be. Full control of game distribution by one company which can set the price as high as it wants. Would be interesting to see if discounts would be a thing on this service or not.

It feels like Google rushed Stadia out. The lack of games and the few games available seem to be overpriced. Microsoft is doing it right with xCloud with not rushing it and having it linked with Game Pass. xCloud will have far more games when it officially launches.

This isn't to stay that Google won't turn it around and substantially increase the number of games on it. But without the games there is little reason to buy into Stadia.

It's not as easy for Google to just increase the number of games like Microsoft did (from 4 to 50+). They need to convince developers first to make games for Stadia in order to put them there. Microsoft already has thousands of games available which they can put on xCloud anytime they want.

streamed or digital game prices should be a third off from retail its a scam

You want game companies to tell retailers to go f* themselves? That's not very nice. :(

It is a scam. Personally I wouldn’t even immediately be against a real Netflix style service, though it being by Google would already raise a flag, but this paying full price for a rental; buying something you don’t own in any way, and enslaving yourself at the mercy of the distributor, should be judged very harshly. At least with Netflix you know you’re just borrowing the rights to view for a limited time and for an appropriate fee. I hope Stadia bombs hard and fast, if it doesn’t, it would prove to me a lot of gamers are like heroin addicts, dying to get ‘a fix’. And this would be a sad state of affairs.

Well the price comparison is a little off - digital vs. physical.
Physical pretty much always wins that battle. Should've compared digital to digital and unless there's a sale, prices will be the same for most games.
