Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why hasn't Nintendo made a Skylanders type Amiibo game?

Tagged games:

Since the announcement of Amiibo, I kept waiting for Nintendo to unveil a game that was essentially Skylanders but with Nintendo characters.  Not that I myself would give two hoots about it, but given the success of Skylanders, it seemed like a no brainer to follow in its footsteps.

Instead, the only games so far that are built around Amiibo appear to have extremely minimal gameplay. Why not do a full fledged game instead? It worked not only for Skylanders, but for Disney Infinity and Lego Dimensions as well.

Am I missing some obvious reason why this would be a bad idea, (commerically of course, I know some of us would simply dislike it on principal) or is this just another case of Nintendo missing the obvious?

It will come. It's just a matter of time. Too tempting for Nintendo to ignore it.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

This is billionth time we've had this thread.. Just give it time.

bet: lost

Not before Amibo Party, Amiibo Kart and Amiibo Sports..

I know it's a bit dramatic, but I keep saying that if one doesn't LAUNCH with the NX, Nintendo is in a worse place than any of us could have ever dreamed. Even waiting this long is so monumentally stupid that I can hardly handle it. They're just sitting back and letting the market become flooded.

You know I wanted Amiibo to be just limited to Nintendo cloned Skylander game for a while but I never played those game before... Do those figures only lock characters in those games and the other modes and contents are untouched?

They're not going to waste it on Wii U/3DS at this point.

It will be for NX.

Relax, I think they're doing it right now... for their next console. Would be a waste to put on Wii U anyway, and would actually attract tons of kids to their new console.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I think that when they launched the amiibos, they didnt expect nowhere near this level of success. So in order to not spend too much money on what would be considered a risky move, they hoped that the lower functionality with multiple games(Smash, Mario Kart, and many more games) would sell the figures without having to spend too much money on a game involved only on amiibo. And it did work, even though people didnt buy exactly for that. But now that the amiibos are a ravaging success, having already sold 24+ million and still selling like crazy, its now a safe bet, and a potentially a system seller, to make a game that revolves around it, that i guess will be on NX.There is enough "installed base" and demand for such game to be feasible financially.Thats my take on it anyway

Edit:Oh, and it would be a struck of genius if this supposed amiibos game came to the NX free of charge, as a free downloadable game(alongside the bundle of another launch game). It would give an extra incentive to people who has amiibos to buy the NX, since they would gain an extra value for the console at no charge.Make it happen Nintendo!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
