A cycle is defined by when the next console launches not when it's discontinued.

This is pretty much what everone expected: Nintendo is not going to rush a new console.
They want to please existing gamers and they want, from a developer point of view, to exploit all it's strenths before moving on.

But to actually do the latter, they really need to support the console, otherwise the console might not live to see all the things developers want to do with it.

2017+ confirmed :P that s logical....!it won t leave wii u with low sales, like 15m, by releasing a new console for example in 2015, hurting their name and betray wii u owners!Nintendo wants to satisfy the wii u current and upcoming owners and hit the max of the sales,plus probably win against gamecube,that s why i think wii u will have six years lifetime,also many games and spinoffs promises implies tha ,wii u will have support till the death,which didn t happen in gc era...!2years and some suggest to release a new console...this doens t show goodwill...it would be a m(s)ega mistake...!p.s nintendo start working on the successor this year,every nintendo console successor needs 4 years to be maden,so 2017+is locked!...De ja vu,I was searching for old articles about Gamecube and saw one,which was in the end of 2002...Nintendo is working to the successor,is going to release a new console in 2003....loooool!A wii u redesign would be good...Nintendo WII U slim!MS and Sony have done it, with great success,it helps in sales i think:P As for a revision?hell,no! it would bother old wii u owners and make them hostile against the next console :P

As much more potential as its unique nature gives the Wii-U compared to its rivals they really shouldn't wait that long after their rivals new machines turn around and crash the industry. 2020 in the latest.

Edit: Been rethinking this since I posted it, I may be off about the timing of the next crash. Might be more likely to happen around the birth of the PS5, Xbotwo, and UltraNES.

I guess being late sometimes has its rewards.

Well just a guestimate, but Sony hired a graphics chip designer in Cerny and it took 30+ months before the ps4 was revealed and launched. So it looks like it'll be around 3 years after this guy is hired before a console is revealed. It goes in line with their usual console cycle. Should be 2017 or even 2018 before a new console is launched.

Whatever it is, I hope it has at least 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and a respectable cpu. Listening to 3rd party devs this time led to APUs.

I think that's how most new consoles work.
