Forums - Gaming Discussion - Keiji Inafune still wants to work on Mega Man Legends 3, more then anything else. :,(

Speaking with US Gamer, Comcept’s Keiji Inafune says he would still like to make Mega Man Legends 3. In fact, it’s the game he wants to make most.

“If somebody asked, even right now, what’s the game you want to create most? It’s still Legends 3,” Inafune said to the site. “I put so much effort into that game, so much passion into that game, but it didn’t happen. It’s always a regret in my mind. Even now…”

“We all know that’s not going to happen, though, as long as Capcom holds the IP,” Inafune continued. “But if they asked me to make that game, I could still gather most of the original team, even right now. Some of them have quit Capcom, some of them are still at Capcom, but I believe that team would be passionate enough to come back together and create that game. So… we’ll see what’s going to happen. You never know.”

As you may recall, Mega Man Legends 3 was cancelled while Inafune was still an employee of Capcom. Since then, he has struck out on his own to help create spiritual successors to the Mega Man games in the form of Mighty No. 9and Azure Striker Gunvolt, in collaboration with Inti Creates, a studio that has worked on numerous Mega Man games.

Inafune added, “Let’s say that, if we have all seven Dragon Balls right here, right now, and Shen Long comes up and says, ‘What’s your wish?’ My wish would be, give me all the right tools, people, and environment to createLegends 3.”

And Capcom be like... Nope... Who do you think we are? The fans want the game, the developer wants to make the game but we are Capcom damn it! We do not do what the fans want cause if we did, it will tarnish the Capcom brand!

Why doesn't Capcom want to make it? Were the previous two Legends games such a flop that they don't want to do a third? If so, I think that people would buy legends 3 just because we haven't had a megaman game in a long time. Seriously, I think a lot of people are going to buy Smash Bros just to play Megaman. And by the way, the fact that Nintendo put Megaman in it suggests that there may be a Nintendo exclusive Megaman game in the works because as far as I know Nintendo doesn't include characters in smash bros that aren't actively relevant in current games.

It's also the one game I want him to work on.

I want Maverick Hunter. >.>

LMAO.

Fans really want Megaman Legends 3 and Capcom really wants money. So it's a win-win situation if it was made.
I guess Capcom cannot think of specific ways to add dlc to it?

Maybe Capcom planned this 'death' of Megaman as a way to build hype for it, and its eventual rebirth will sell squillions!

The first one sold reasonably well, but the second did not.  Keiji Inafune at the time of development was having issues with Capcom management which may or may not have factored into the decision.  In addition, the 3DS was selling incredibly poorly at the time of cancellation.

At this point, the situation is different.  The game has gotten a huge amount of press from its cancellation, the 3DS has a healthy install base, and things are generally more favorable.  Unfortunately, it seems ego is getting in the way of a win-win situation.

It's a shame Capcom arbitrarily decided there was not enough interest in it.
