Finally finished Sonic Lost World for the Wii U. I know it launched a while ago but I took my time due to Pokemon X/Y and my XBONE coming in.

At first I was adamant the controls were just fine but the game is riddled with instances where it just flat out does not want to cooperate with the player. For instance, the game at times fails to obey its own rules and seems to forget Sonic is even in the game. Flowers that open when you jump on them harm you for no reason when trying to open them and boss fights that require auto attacks to be damaged are not highlighted by the auto attack prompt despite being in a state of vulnerability and you being nearby. I'm under the firm belief that this game was not extensively playtested. However when it works it is a joy to play and definitely not as awful as critics made it out to be, as the majority of critics' control issues seemed to stem from their own incompetence and weren't in the same category as my complaints with the game.

Did anyone else experience any issues with the game or was it all smooth sailing for you?  Considering the sales and reviews of the game do you think this is the final nail in Sonic's coffin?

Too the last question, I think nearly everyone can agree that Sonic needs to die OR a total reboot with a new TV show or a movie. Something that can help push the game. And most importantly they have got to stop bringing out shitty Sonic games because its majorly hurt the franchise.

I'm of the opinion that not everything was bad with the controls and some things can be improved upon, but i also agree that Sonic needs to be rebooted in the style of Sonic 06. The game was full of bugs and nearly unplayable, but the way Sonic and friends were portrayed is the right way to bring Sonic back.

In short, they need to make Sonic more adult and cool again. There needs to be a storyline that makes you care and there needs to be graphics that make the game atractive. Heck, as far as i care they could just grab the engine used for Sonic 06 and develop a new game with that, minus the bugs and bad design of some levels and plus some of the good mechanics they made with Lost world.

Sadly, i do think this might be the end of Sonic, since the current Sonic Team is made of incompetent people who dont want to admit that Yuji Naka knew what he was doing. They dont want to lower themselves and admit that the path he took with Adventure was the path Sonic needs to go in. I think they will kill Sonic permanently and lose their jobs before they make the Sonic game the fans want and the franchise needs.

In a nuttshell, its not too different from what SEGA as a whole has become today.

In an ideal world, SEGA should hire Yuji Naka and Prope to assist in the development of the next Sonic game. That is the only realistic way he can be saved. Execs need to stop worrying so much about losing face and need to worry more about making a sucessful brand.

Didn't they try this with Shadow and 06's stories but fail miserably? Personally the childish approach doesn't feel like it would be that much of a deterrant. A serious Sonic storyline reminds me too much of the Sonic Archie comics and those are just filled to the brim with unnecessary and unmemorable characters.

I think the problem here lies with how do you make a new Sonic Adventure with functional controls. Lost World was quite clearly an experiment with the walk and run buttons and I feel for the most part they work but at the expense of an overall sense of speed the franchise is known for. The Sonic devs are really stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment for the inevitable next Sonic title.

You need to have a strong story for people to care. Sonic isnt Mario, hes not saving a princess everytime.
Sonic without a plot doesnt atract anyone. Its not like his games have the fame of beeing really good for the gameplay.
Shadow didnt have much of a plot. Sonic 06 took some wrong turns but had the right vibe. The adventure games are the most popular and they had decent plots.

The game was ok, i too had difficultes in some levels due to the controls and overall felt that the game was poorly made.

Story wise, the plot was good but could have been done better. That is the problem with a lot of sonic games the story are sometimes badly written.

This has nothing to do with the game, but a jackass friend of mine is a huge sonic fan, he kept blaming the game being bad on Nintendo fans and Nintendo, saying that if sega did not make the game exclusive and try to cater to nintendo fans, then this game would not have been shit and played like rubbish. If the game was on sony it would have been good and played like generations.

God i really hate the guy, this is not the 1st sonic game that has been nintendo exclusive, it was sega trying to get mario galaxy sales, and he has the fucking balls to insult nintendo. this was the guy that kept saying 3ds would fail and vita was the 2nd coming of ps2, god i really hate the guy

And here I thought that Sonic had a chance of revival with "Super Sonic Galaxy".

Well, back to Super Mario 3D World.

I experienced similar issues on the 3DS demo of Lost Worlds, the demo ensured I will never buy the game.

I enjoyed Generations on the 3DS minus the fact it was so short I felt like I was robbed of my cash by about 90% of its current asking price.

The next and possibly last Sonic game I will purchase is the 3DS remake of the original Sonic (in 3D!) which just came out on the estore, they even added new features which is a massive bonus for any old school Sonic fans.

You say you took a while to finish Lost Worlds thanks to X/Y and your X1. Now tell me sir, why did Zelda: A Link Between Worlds not join your list of distractions?

The flowers harm you when you land on them after a double-jump, because that gets you out of the spin attack that you need to open the flowers. While it's stupidly annoying, it's at least consistent in the causation>reaction department, so you just need to get used to it. The lock-on for the homing attack is a different story, because it is random and unreliable.

Regarding sales, is there really something like the final nail in the coffin for Sonic? It's not like Sega has other options to give their developers something to do and they also don't have the financial means to really get something else off the ground.

As for story, they should get rid of it. I mean, who the hell cares? Have an intro and then let people play the damn game.

I'm well aware of being vulnerable after a double jump, the flowers harm me when I do a normal jump and not a double jump. Can't describe how frustrated I got with the level. At times I wish the Wii U had a built in DVR feature.

My copy should come in some time this week. I'm a cheapass and import my videogames.
