Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nvidia boss: “No longer possible” for consoles to have better graphics than PC

Tagged games:

I havnt commented on any of this yet but I remember reading nvidia made 500 million? from the ps3 and that is why they werent interested in the ps4 as that wasnt enough or something but I gotta say that is so unbelievable people as rich as gina reinhart would never dream of knocking back that sort of money.

As for the PS2 being faster then pcs bit, that would mean the xbox/gamecube blew the pcs completely away because werent they more powerful then ps2.

I'd say this has been the case ever since 2006.

Lol. They are stating the obvious. Off course PC will be generations ahead of consoles. But what is cool about consoles is that through "economics of scale" consoles bring gaming and new technology to masses. IMO nvidia is still angry that AMD got the contract for all three consoles in next generation.

They were, but they also launched 18 months after the PS2.

No dude, Invidea didnt see the profits in supplying GPUs to consoles. They couldnt care less what AMD do. AMD will gain very little in supplying GPUs to Sony etc.

When PS2 launched - perhaps, best at that time was GeForce 2. Next year same time, no, GeForce 3 Ti500 was available, that's about the level that original Xbox performed at.

As for the interview, usual nVidia sour grapes syndrome.

As far as I know Nvdia ever even tendered an offer because of how low the profit margins were last gen.   AMD were the only ones to fight over such tiny margins, becuase lets be honest here...

AMD is desperate.

I remember playing Final Fantasy 8 on PC, it certainly ran better and looked better on PC than the Playstation. So I call false on nVidia. :P
Same with every Grand Theft Auto.

--::{PC Gaming Master Race}::--

After building my latest gaming PC, I realised the reality of diminishing returns. PS4 might have 10 times the power of the PS3, but games will not look 10 times better. They will look like sharper, smoother-running versions of what is out now with better lighting and some other effects. I used to get butthurt that I spend $2000 building a PC and that devs where able to get decent ports of the same games running on 7 year old hardware. The new consoles might be able to perform as well as my 2012 build through optimisations (not sure how many TFLOPS my video cards are but it's well over 2), but I can't see there being anything mind blowing this coming gen. Diminishing returns are upon us.

Tell you what tho its impossible for a PC to have better graphics for £350 :)
