Forums - Microsoft Discussion - XBOX FANS ONLY: Did the DRM news really kill all your interest of ever getting a Xbox One?

My interest for the console is low, so low that it is now buried under 6ft of concrete

Short answer yes. Long answer yes, but it wasn't the only thing that put me off. It is just the only justification I need. If it weren't there however I would still have issues with the console. It is underpowered in comparison to its nearest rival. With much of that power being diverted to run needless background applications. It doesn't support backwards compatibility. It comes shackled with a mandatory peripheral. Which is quite frankly a nuisance. I have cursed at the original enough times. For turning videos off on me,

I buy consoles to game, and more specifically I buy them for the console gaming experience. If a console can't be bothered to be plug and play. Then what is the fucking point anyway. If you gotta jump through hoops. Then you might as well move on up to PC, and get much more for your buck. With that I take a small bow.

the use game part did everything else just is another nail in the coffin

Yes, it really did. The online check in every 24 hours thing doesn't even bother me that much, it's more of a minor annoyance. What gets to me is the blocking used games. I simply refuse to spend $60 (or probably even more than that this gen) per game. Last generation, I also refused to buy most of my games at this price, and the most viable way to get games cheaper was either to wait a year or 2 for the price to drop, or buy them used. Naturally, I often opted for the second option. Now MS has removed that choice from my hands, so I will respond by not buying their product. Apparently they don't want me as a consumer any more. So be it.

Then you have forced Kinect support, and I hate Kinect.

And the no BC is actually a pretty big deal to me. Now I can't play my old and new games on a single console, and so much for selling my 360. My basement is cluttered enough as it is with all the consoles, controllers, and perhiperals.

I am still baffled MS would be this stupid/crazy. This easily trumps $599USD. At least the PS3 EVENTUALLY came down to a more reasonable price, whereas with Xbox One, we are stuck with this.

I will just stick to my 360 for a couple more years, until I decide to buy a Wii U, and eventually maybe even a PS4. Especially with my new gaming rig that has 8 gig RAM DDR3 and a pretty solid graphics card, why would I ever need an Xbox One?

Though my enthusiasm is a bit dampened, it by no means killed off my interest in Xbox One, for a number of reasons.

First of all, we don't know the whole picture of what Microsoft has planned in these areas. We are fairly sure game licences are tied to user accounts, but we don't know much more beyond that regarding used games (and I don't even buy used games); we also have little idea what online requirements will be (though that is not currently a problem for me, as I am fortunate to have a stable internet connection). I can't write off the One without knowing full details about its functionality.

Second, we know even LESS about Sony and the PS4. Their messaging has also been somewhat muddled, but really it has basically been nonexistent. They don't want to talk about it, for the most part, and Sony fans right now are just assuming that nothing will change for them. If Microsoft and Sony wind up taking similar paths in regard to used games and/or online requirements, I'll have no reason to abandon the One for the PS4.

No, cause all the details are very sketchy. Also, I'll wait till E3 before I can decide which is better although I probably won't buy a next generation console for another 2 years.

Nah, I buy new and am always online.

I do think it's a bad idea though.

Won't be getting it, not because i buy used or whatever, I won't be supporting this kind of anti-consumerism, if Sony does the same I guess I will have to give nintendo a try this gen and I'll do most of my gaming on pc

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

This depends pretty much on Sony. If they manage to be more consumer friendly about this stuff I will end up buying the PS4.
Anyway: No launch purchase from me...

LOL ... don't run to PS4 yet... hint: it will be very much the same.
