Bravely Default: Flying Fairy (ブレイブリーデフォルト Bureiburī Deforuto ) is an upcoming 2012 role-playing video game by Square Enix for the Nintendo 3DS. The game is being developed by Silicon Studio, best known for the action role-playing game 3D Dot Game Heroes. It is being directed by Takashi Tokita, while Akihiko Yoshida is the art director and character designer. It has been described by producer Tomoya Asano as a “standard RPG,” complete with random encounters and turn-based battles. The game’s job and battle system are similar to Final Fantasy V." It will feature augmented reality in the gameplay.
The game's producer is Tomoya Asano and the assistant producer is Shinji Takahashi. The scenario writer is 5pb. employee Naotaka Hayashi, best known for writing the visual novel Steins;Gate (later adapted into an anime series). Asano, who wanted Bravely Default to have "appealing and likable characters and a scenario that surprised players," found these qualities in Steins;Gate and thus asked Hayashi to write the plot and characters. Hayashi explained that the title Bravely Default means "have courage and renounce the promises and responsibilities that are expected of you".
Tiz is a kind and just 16-year-old who somehow manages to survive when his home town is sucked into a giant hole that opens up in the ground. He meets the game's heroine, Anies, who's out to stop the invading darkness that follows the disaster. Setting off on his journey with Anies, Tiz is deeply saddened that he was unable to save his sole relative, his little brother.
The world shots show a kingdom in the center of a desert which houses a shrine for the wind crystal. The kingdom developed through wind power, but now the wind has stopped, and power is attained through day and night manual labor. The people also struggle because of rampant piracy and control of water by corporate interests.
