What if the future of Playstation Plus is that it takes online multiplayer from the free service? Unlikely, but it sure would help Sony get out of the red.

Are you serious? Making online gaming a paid service will not net Sony billions of dollars per year. The PlayStation division is making a profit btw.

It's almost certainly the Gaikai deal.

They're not going to take a service that used to be free (online multiplayer) and start charging for it, because that is PR suicide.

I agree, they should charge. It might piss people off but it would be good business sense really. Not like everyones gonna sell there console. That said I don't expect them to do it this gen if at all they will do it next gen.
