Forums - Gaming Discussion - Official Retro Games Thread (was: Atarians and other retro gamers assemble!)

You can be part of other teams if you like.  I just want to make sure we get SOME people into old school games to represent here.  Heck, if you like new stuff also, check in to.  But, if you have a fondness for coin-ops, speak up here.   I don't care to be team captain either.  Maybe can play a round of Asteroids, with high score becoming retro emperor or something.

Edit: Until there is an official forum to discuss retro videogame stuff on here, it was suggested to morph this thread into one as an official retro games thread.  So, here it is.  Idea of Team Retro can also be discussed here:

That thread is for pushing to get a retro games forum on here, with a poll.  If you want to have a retro game forum onVGChartz, go there and vote YES.

I don't know about you but my Atari 2600 had some wood on the front!

To be part of the Atarian-Retroian coalition, you just have to like retro gaming stuff, even if you don't play it now.  Pretty much arcade coin-op, DOS and other stuff from the past would count here.  Heck, even Amiga stuff.  If the games play on consoles that aren't in production by their original manufacturer, and you like these games, speak up and you are part.

I remember the 286, 386, 486 days...

I remember a computer shop near a college I was at telling me that a 386 computer would be the only computer I would ever need.

Does.....original Nintendo count as Retro n__n?

Yes.  Pretty much stuff you find in the virtual console marketplace would count.  Maybe even a bit beyond that.  Just the console is no longer made by the manufacturer.  Of course, there is a debate with how far back is far enough, but that is a matter of cut off point, and not general approach.

I loved my C64 and Amiga it was the Amiga market crashing that made me move on to console so I sold it and got a day one PS1 , i think it might have helped Sony gain ground on the Saturn in Europe and especially in the UK and Australia where the Amiga was very popular , you had a lot of people looking for a successor many who didn't want to jump onto the PC seeing it was seen as a Amiga rival and expensive , the PS1 came along at the right time and fitted the bill from a purely gaming perspective.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

More then 75% of my video game collection are from SNES and earlier. I still play with my Sega Genesis and NES on a regular basis so I'm in with you guys too.

I had a Commodore 64 and an Amiga 500 after that, good times! I also enjoyed the Atari Lynx, the only handheld I ever liked.

Been playing a lot of PC games since Ultima and Warcraft 1, but Betrayal at Krondor, Stone Prophet and Lands of Lore was what really made me crazy about gaming! And the old Lucasarts classics of course, point & click was da shizzle back in the day.

Which Lynx stuff?  For me, I have a place for Warbirds, Blue Lightning and also Todd's Adventure in Slimeworld.  Now, if I could only find the Lynx and games I have for it.  BLECH!

I personally ended up very much an Atari man myself, even on the computer side.
