As it says, I think the fact that a lot of people use e-mail and online to pay their bills has something to do with their problem. While you have companies and the like sending mail, you don't have the populace doing so, meaning less sales on things like stamps.

Think about it as a way of convenience. The postman comes once a day to deliver your mail and not everyone can get to a mailbox (I'm not even sure where the closest mailbox is near me, but I assume it's outside of the supermarket down the street). On the other side, you can pay your bills online anytime you want in the convenience of your own home, without doing much but lifting a couple of fingers. No one writes letters anymore (except for probably families with troops), and most communication is done via e-mail/instant messaging/Skype.

Well they need to do something as they are losing tons of money and It's our responsbility for them to break even and/or profit so that they don't lose money anymore.

I'm fine with no mail on Saturdays as long as It's there to save them money, hell 4 days a week if they really have to save money. UPS and Fed Ex are around for the urgent packages, you can wait a extra day or two for your magazines or junk mail.

It's just that simple.

I actually like receiving orders from Amazon and games from Gamefly on Saturdays but if it saves them money it is for the best. I still think the Postal Service is too important to give up on.

I myself do not understand this. We are sending and recieving double the amount than we were even ten years ago. I for one get a mail box full of junk every day. Whether its stuff from amazon or magazines or something else. The war has troops being sent millions of care packages each day, but our post office is struggling?

Its all those people on compensation and disablility which is killing their profits! anyways here is Obamas plan. He seems to have a lot of tough decisions this term!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Obama administration's plan to rescue the U.S. Postal Service would allow the agency to end Saturday mail delivery and sell non-postal products, according to documents released on Monday.

The plan, introduced alongside a deficit-reduction package, also would restructure a massive annual payment to prefund retiree health benefits and refund $6.9 billion the mail carrier says it overpaid into a federal retirement fund.

The White House says its plan would save the Postal Service more than $20 billion in the next few years.

"The administration recognizes the enormous value of the U.S. Postal Service to the nation's commerce and communications, as well as the urgent need for reform to ensure its future viability," the White House document said.

The Postal Service has watched its core business of delivering mail erode as consumers send email and pay bills online. The agency has said it needs to downsize drastically or it will be unable to deliver mail by the end of next summer.

Most bills still come in the mail, or at least they do for me and my family, even if the payment of those bills is done electronically. Even some bills are paid automatically (like my grandmother's Electric bill is automatically taken out), but they still send out a statement every month showing the bill. I do know that companies offer paperless options, which I'm sure plenty of people do.

I'm fairly certain this is only affecting the USPS, not UPS and Fed Ex. Amazon ships through UPS for you, don't they? It should still come on Saturdays.

I could live without Saturday mail. Anything that cuts down on the budget is good!

I do almost all my bills online. My city charges too much of a fee to pay sewer/water bills otherwise I would have every single bill do online. I like getting paper statements for some things, but overall It's not needed.

I'd say 60% of my mail is junk mail in the forms of credit card offers, local business advertisement and other misc crap. At least with spam I can delete it, but with junk mail I have to shred everything and it can be a pain.

It's just that simple.

Canada Post only delivers mail on weekdays and it makes a profit.

Just get rid of the postal service completely. Or privatize the mail market so they can actually compete with UPS and FedEx.
