Forums - Sales Discussion - Apple is now worth more than Microsoft

Pretty good accomplishment but there is big chance that this is just temporarily situation because imo MS has a lot more reliable income than apple. MS could release shitty OS and still make billions of dollars because they have monopoly in OS market. Apple releases shitty product and their value will drop like a rock. it's all about brand in Apple's case.

I used to think this, then they released the iPad and it sold like gothcakes.

And those who want capability from their OS don't choose Windows either.

This is true. Unless they know what they're talking about.

Unless you tried Vista some years back and have been in a bubble since, then there's no excuse for you to be this clueless. XP and Windows 7 are both almost universally acknowledged as great operating systems. And they are both capable of more than any other OS... unless "running software" is somehow not factored into the equation.

It's all about growth. Apple has shown it can successfully move into new markets and make money. This is something most other companies struggle with, but Apple has done this with regularity which is rather unique.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

No surprise here, MS has been surviving for years on its 2 old cash cows (MS and office). Everything else they tried basically failed and lost money. They've been heading south for years...

Google and Apple are now the IT leaders MS once was. Like Nintendo and Sony are the kings of video games.

Cell Phones, MP3 players, and laptops for college students makes one an IT leader? as opposed to OSs, Office Productivity, and server software?

Those are old, established markets. Very little growth.

Today the growth is in mobile computing, and Apple sells more mobile computers than any other manufacturer.

It is so funny that on every forum i go there is a PC/Mac Windows/Mac OSX debate. Apple overtaking Microsoft in worth has nothing to with Mac, that division is only responsible for a very small part of Apple's income. It's the Ipod, Iphone, Itunes, Ipad etc. that bring in the money.

In the personal computer market, Microsoft is still way bigger than Apple. In fact many believe that if it hade not been for the IPod Apple wouldn't have survived to this day. Because remember, the IPod didn't just bring in big money, it also helped shape the ''Apple'' brand.

Market/STOCK value does not mean that Apple is bigger than MS or that it produces even remotely close to MS's revenue/profits.

Misleading.

Apple, which struggled for many years to get its products into the mainstream, resorted to a $150 million investment from the much larger Microsoft in 1997 in order to keep it afloat.

LOL, Reuters are uneducated morons... That was not "investment", that was a part of payment after Microsoft had tried stealing QT code and lost their case in the court.

You believe way too much in conspiracy theories.  Reuters is right, you are wrong in this case.

Add in the fact that today Microsoft is higher again!

Although I don't personally care for a lot of there products, I have found other great products for half the price through other companies, Apple products are over priced, I am glad they have passed up MS !!

I bet this really pisses off Bill Gates considering he jacked Apples operating system back in the day.

Power users began to shift away from windows well before vista was out:
