phinch1, I have a housemate in your exact situation, it'll cost him £99 to fix that he's not willing to pay, although he's less angry then you. He can't find his receipt which doesn't help. I would recommend paying but many have already said that and it'll just be white noise. I do like the angle of complaining though, it recently got me a new suspension and 10% back in vouchers on a new bike.

But one key thing, change the last line in your letter, if you sound like a lost cause they won't help you.

lol am i really coming across as angry? I'm not an angry person at all, i might sound it in the letter i guess, ive still got my recipt but it is out of warranty, I will change my tone in the letter i think.

Well, you should show some as like many people complaining, you are but then my housemate is far more relaxed about it and had the issue for months only really playing his downloaded games, I have a PS3 as well so he isn't concerned as much as he uses mine too. I'd still change the last line though.

I wish you luck in scoring some good free service eitherway.

Hmm, pie.

I love how some people feel because it's Sony you shouldn't even be upset. The mind of a fanboy...

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

^^ oh no fanboy alert.
sorry to hear about that, i hope you don't stop being a sony customer, you will miss out on so much, anyway tell them that you are a loyal fan since ps1 days and have had no problems with any of there previous products, that should stir them up somewhat (even if it's not true).
at least i know if my ps3 ever dies on me i can say that, both my ps1 and ps2 are still working perfectly and my ps3 is poorly, poor thing, but i will buy another one, just beause normally sony products are so reliable, i think it's just a problem with all the release consoles, they all will die sooner or later especially if you play on them lots.

Question. What am I am fanboy of? I have a PS3 and a 360 and love them both. I just stated that my co-workers Blu Ray died recently. You on the other hand have proven you are a fanboy. I don't love any system exclusively.

yeah im a sony fangirl and proud of it, atleast i admit i'm a fangirl lol.

Yeah, it's rare to see someone actually say they are a fanboy or girl.

Glad to see some people don't shy away from the title.

Ive decided to pay the £99 to get it repaired/refurbish then I will spend another £38 on getting a 320gb Hdd. £137 for an Hd upgrade and repaired console beats paying £250 for a slim

Is out of the warranty, almost no electronic has 2+ year warranty. The RROD 3 year warranty was a PR damage control.
pay and fix.
Or sell and buy a SLIIM

Not really much you can do.

A few pointers:

* Go straight to the top, never wast time on QA, find the big boss man and email or TELEPHONE him / her instead. The higher up you go the more chance you have of getting things fixed.

* Be reasonable in your argument. Do not mention the 360 or drivel on about being a fan. Do mention that you are a long time customer who has been happy with the product until now.

* Mention the concept of fair use for any consumer electronic (the more expensive it is, the more a product manufactorer has a liability to ensure that the product last it's life cycle') most country has similiar laws to this effect even if its generally not enforced.

Cross you fingers.

my BD lense went aswell,4 months ago

they quoted me £150,no one quoted me £99 for it,or offered it for free,i'm not paying £150 to get it fixed but i want to keep my 60gb BC,

in the end i sent it off to some console repair place, they fixed it for £85,i get it back monday, hoooraaayy

it better work and i'll spend the difference on games

i hope the lasers aren't going to break all the time,it seems to be a common problem,oh well get to look at UD2 and pro 2010 next week

if it breaks down again i think i'll just have to get a new one, good luck with getting yours fixed for free,i wish i had

You should have purchased an extended warranty. Probably the extended warranty would have cost 50-80$

Extended warranty are the biggest waste of money ever.

Buying any electronics is a big waste of money to start with

Add that you want the trophy syncing problems fixed once and for all.

You read my post didn't you?

@ phinch1: SOmetimes it's more effort than it's worth to try to get the free service you think you deserve. I've cut my losses and paid the money in a few situations where I thought justice was on my side. But it was going to cost me more in time, effort and stress to try to extract justice, so I ended up not sticking it to the man. I suggest you still send the letter. You never know, they might send you a box of chocolates.
