Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Mark Rein: "All our future games will support Natal"

http://computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=225143

"All future Xbox games from Gears of War house, Epic Games will support Natal.

That's the opinion of VP Mark Rein, who told OXM, "we always want to have something that exploits the unique capabilities of a platform.

"We're just sitting down with [Natal] in the next two weeks I think, to bring our studio guys in to have a look," he said. "I have no idea what we're going to do from a game standpoint, but from an engine standpoint, it's definitely cool stuff and we will support it.

"I think any future Xbox games we make will have some Natal support," he added. "We always want to have something that exploits the unique capabilities of a platform."

Xbox owners should probably expect the obligatory Natal grenade throwing in Gears of War 3, then.

"I think everyone will do something that exploits Natal once it's out there and everyone has it," Said Rein. "So will people be able to benefit from it? Yes. And then if they want to make that 'oh my god' really cool Natal experience, well, we got the engine for that. I'm pretty psyched about it."

Nice, I'm curious to see what Epic might do with it.

I can't really see Natal working with games like Gears (or other Epic games) as anything more than a gimmick that gets annoying after the first session (almost like sixaxis, lol).

If you're gonna use Natal then I think the game needs to be designed based around it for a really platform defining experience, which it appears that Epic aren't thinking of doing.

I wonder how long before this gets totaled by negative responses. Anyway more good news for Natal and more proof of heavy industry support. Can only be a good thing, what is more promising is the mention of using aspects of Natal. Everyone seems to focus on the need to implement the entire solution so this is good news.

I don't mind them includinf certain Natal functionality if it detects you have it, but will be a bit annoyed if they make Natal required to play the game.

"and everyone has it"

Depending on the price not everyone will have natal. The games will obviously work without it but at the same time developing a game with "natal with" and "natal without" will drive up time/cost of the games.

He said "once everyone has it".

OT: Grenades? lol, that'd be funny. I'm curious to what they have in mind.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

@Pullus I agree 100%. Gears would be ruined by Natal, but UT could benefit from it especially on console by both Natal and the Spehere... but I do hope that Epic will create a new IP for Natal and wont just tack it on on an existing one

True, but I don't see how that changes anything that I wrote.

"once everyone has it" or "everyone has it" means - if taken literally- that at some point everyone will have it.

I don't get the point you are trying to make. Forgive me.

No, you were right either way. I was just pointing out that he basically meant "once it's sales are strong enough, whenever that is, more developers will support it". That's it.
