Forums - Sony Discussion - Why are some hyping Demon Soul like it is a game changer?

You're right, 360 fans don't hype games. Forget about Halo 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Forza 3, *goes on ridiculously long list*.

The difference is that all those games you listed, except obviously Forza because it is not out yet, sold like hotcakes.  The shit PS3 fans change their avatars for/talk up constantly never sells impressively, never gets super high meta scores, etc.  It is hyped because it is a PS3 exclusive.  inFamous is easily the best example.

To be fair, I've never even played inFamous.  I don't hate on PS3 either.  As I type this I am waiting on mine to arrive from Amazon.  But for reasonable human beings without an all-consuming console preference, it gets extremely tiresome reading nonstop hype about games that will never amount to anything, ever.  PS3 fans on this site continually make the most illogical and retarded comments in favor of their console.  Then again, you should know that, since you're buying the PS3 version of Batman: AA because the console is black.

So if people want to be excited for a game it has to sell well?  That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.  I can't be happy because Demon's Souls is coming because it won't outsell Gears of War?  You say that 360 fans are more logical and that's why they only get excited for games that do well in sales.  How about this theory, 360 fans stick to games that are more commercially important because they don't know any better.  Couldn't that also explain the difference?

InFamous is an awesome game though. I know. I've played it.

Who cares if it didn't get super high sales, or didn't get a 90+ score on Metacritic? Doesn't stop is being an incredibly fun game.

Fact is (and this is addressed to everyone who whines about people 'overhyping' games) people are always going to be excited about upcoming games. Get over it.

And yes, they will stop talking about it once it comes out - this is because they can now play the game (a radical concept, I know) and so no longer need to talk about it.

I am seriously thinking of picking this game up but I have a question.

When you get the regular edition, it comes with t 40+ page artbook and a soundtrack.

When you get the Deluxe Edition, it says it comes with a slip cover and 150+ page strategy guide.

Does the "Deluxe Game Changer Edition" also come with the 40+ page artbook and soundtrack? Curious because this would be the one I would want to pick up.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I'm fairly certain the artbook and soundtrack are rewards simply for reserving the game, so you would get those as well with the Deluxe Edition.

Cool.

Thanks a lot.

Atlus is the best when it comes to pack in goodies.

This is the most offensive statement I have read on this site for a long time.

Why are you so upset to come up something like this?  Do you mean "some" PS fans?

Also, what's wrong with gamers hype about good games?  If sale number means so much more than the quality to you.  Go hype abot Wii Fit and those sport games released annually.  Demon's Souls is the game that deserves all the hype.  It's a miracle for a brand new hardcore game like DS, with literally no marketing campaign, to sell over 150K in Japan nowaday.  If it's not for all the hype among gamers, DS would have never sold that many in Japan.  But the bottom line is, gamers appreciate how good the game is and want other gamers to experience it as well.  What's wrong about that?

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

I don't recall anyone hyping inFamous until after it released. (Badgenome: Leave this one alone.)

Is it ok to "hype" a game that you really loved regardless of sales? I guess I am asking our xbox fans since they are a little sensitive to this.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

So, wait. Gimme a sec. Are you saying that PS3 owners aren't allowed to hype games unless there's assurance that the game will sell well? PS3 fans hyped Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, and a ton of other great games. Even if those games didn't end up selling like other big blockbusters, they were amazing games. And while we're on the subject, the sales of the big 360 games are laughable next to the sales of the big Wii games. Maybe we should criticize 360 fanboys for that. Oh, and do 360 owners not hype "meh" or bad games either? There's Too Human, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Shadowrun, The Last Remnant, and really, most of the RPGs on the platform. InFamous was hyped because it looked to be a really great game from a proven developer. It got good ratings, and is quickly getting to a million sales. How is that "the best" example? How is that even a good example at all? It kind of disproves your point. And the next sentence made me giggle. "I've never even played inFamous, and I don't hate on the PS3, but here I am hating on both." Not the exact quote, but I had to rework it. People without all-consuming console preferences also don't hate on consoles for what fans say. Take it from someone who actually isn't biased, because I know you are. By the way, 360 fans are just as guilty of the things you described. Or should I remind you about 2 members who were 360 fans and left because they were constantly ridiculed for their stupid posts? You basically just insulted a humongous group of people with that statement as well, including me. I'm buying the PS3 version of the latest Batman game for not just the exclusive content, but also because it simply feels like it belongs on the PS3. It's similar to how certain series feel like they should be played on the 360. Everything about the PS3 is dark. The color, the boxart, Sony themselves, and even the desolate, creepy opening menus. It fits Batman perfectly. So really, thanks for insulting me and a bunch of other people. Now shut up and go away.

Lawlz.

I still need to play Infamous. Preferably before Demon's Souls, as DS sounds like a crazy timesink.
