Forums - Sony Discussion - Uncharted 2 falters, no local co-op for Uncharted 2

^ It's for the graphics man! =P

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

This is actually disappointing. I never play online, and after having so much fun with RE5, I was looking forward to playing this coop with my brother.

Oh well, I'm still buying it

I was always going to rent it, but local multiplayer would have put me over the edge for a purchase. Its a difference of content really, with a pretty picture and little content I have to reason to not just play through it once and then discard it. $5 is what a single playthrough is worth to me. With local multiplayer I would have had a reason to keep it because its a difference of 1 play through compared to 3-4. With the former a rental can cover it, with the latter a purchase is warranted.

Okay, so they have a longer single player campaign, with good replayability because of trophies and and internal reward system giving you stuff like new costumes. They then give you multiplayer, which is great fun to play {I played the beta}. They also give you online co-op, which is designed to encourage proper co-op play, and is great fun. The main single player campaign is quite story driven, and the characters accompanying you are likely to change like they did in the first one, so it would not work to just stick you in the SP campaign with some extra players.

Oh and it is probably the best looking game of this generation, as I proved to Selnor, with the exception of gamespy, all the major sites gave it best looking game of E3.

Now, you say that it is not worth a purchase because it doesn't offer enough replayability, so do you just not buy single player only games? Do you not think, this game is great to play, even if it is for only 10 hours, rather than, this will give me 50 hours of less entertaining gameplay, but because it is longer, I must buy it. If so, I would reccomend you stick to jRPGs

Naughty Dog have pretty much improved everything from the first game, but yet they get nothing but complaints because they are missing about 1 feature. They have already had to do a lot of work to get online into this game, and now you want them to have to rework the game to include split screen.

So Fallout 3, Call of Duty series, inFamous, MGS4, Assassins Creed, Uncharted.. etc is not worth buying?

this is the problem at the moment. each new game is pushing developer knowledge in terms of game making so there is no way they can make local co-op work well without downgrading things like visual and audio quality of the single player.

all game consoles, including the PS3, cannot handle the single player level of graphics in a co-op or multiplayer form. they are to weak to handle it.

Resident Evil 5 managed it pretty well, so did Call of Cuty World at War and Resistance 2 co-op.  I think it is just not wanting to do the effort for most games, though I am sure what you say holds true for a few.

Personally I don't much care about local multiplayer, if it had it then it would probably get used but not a lot.  Both my partner and I love Resi 5 but I can count the number of times we've sat down together and played it 2 player on my fingers, same for my other examples listed above.  We both play them online a load though (when the other isn't about).

Only time local multiplayer is really used is when we have friends over in which case 4 player games are pretty much the online thing played, usually Mario Kart.  This isn't often since everyone has jobs and lives, which online helps combat greatly since can just just get in and play with friends without any effort or commitments getting in the way.  No "I gotta start making dinner in an hour so I cannot come over and play".

I personally think online removes such a reliance on local multiplayer, for PS3 and 360 the online is great.  The Wii online suffers terribly in comparison but then the Wii for most games doesn't suffer the lack of local multiplayer.

I agree with everything except the resistance 2 part. The split screen mode in online multiplayer sucked ass, the visual were severly dumbed down to the point that you got shorter drawing distance ect. It was alot more fun and i played alot better when i didnt use this feature.

They should have just done it like RE5 and Gears of War 1 & 2, keep the graphics the same and do splitscreen.

Not surprised though, PS3 exclusives usually cut corners on split-screen.

they did say that on the live chat

Its news like this that makes my gf upset cuz she really enjoys playing local co-op with me. Looks like Resistance 1 & RE5 will still be the best local co-op game this gen for PS3. A let down =(

I HATE YOU NAUGHTY DOG!!!

Nah, the original had no local co-op, and that was still awesome. But really, if you're putting co-op in anyway, go ahead and make it local! We don't care if the visual quality is degraded, we really don't!

it is a shame there is a lack of local co-op these days... and uncharted would lend itself to it very naturally...

Why did everyone say this about the original Uncharted. You spend most of the game on your own, and platforming with friends is not the fun unless it is like LBP where you can slap them and you are racing to collect stuff (coins, bubbles etc.) There is more of a case for including it in Uncharted 2 though for obvious reasons

@munkeh

I actually meant uncharted 2.... apologies.

It wasn't just directed at you, before Uncharted 2 was announced people went on about how Uncharted 1 should have had local multiplayer
