Forums - Sales Discussion - The Offical August 2007 NPD Thread (data to be released 6:30pm 9/13/2007)

September NPD covers the five weeks of September 2 to October 6.  360 should be pushing 400k in September in my opinion, or Microsoft is in heaps of trouble.

August NPD was four weeks.

360 will probably do something like this over those five weeks (estimating US NPD):

Sept 8  65k

Sept 15  60k

Sept 22 72k (20% from people buying 360 in anticipation of Halo 3)

Sept 29 95k (further 30% boost in Halo 3 launch week, excellent sales for the price of Xbox 360 )

October 6 85k (10% drop)

60+65+72+95+85 = 377k

276/4 = 69k

69k x 5 = 345k September at current rates...

I expect October to be ~ 400k for 360 as well (Guitar Hero III & Halo 3 in the same 4 week period).

For 360 USA NPD Sept-Oct I have 800k in my (saved) personal predictions.   The question is whether it splits 350/450, 250/550, 300/500, or 400/400 between September October.

Personally, I favor a 380k/420k split for Sept/Oct for 360 numbers.  Sept-Dec will be better for 360 than last year in the USA.

At the stores, they are being continously supplied but sell out within hours. Fils-Aime said that the Wii sales have now topped 4 million in the U.S. in the past 10 months."

Wow Blue Dragon overtracked by 100%. That must mean Warhawk and Lair too.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Wow this is unusually subdued for an NPD thread. Did everyone forget? I know I did but I caught it at the last moment.

A little note to all: With the #10th title selling 120k, I would guess the #20 title is around the 60k-80k mark (if not lower).

Which means for the same period of tracking, LAIR & WarHawk both did under 70k or so. Guess they only had a couple of days of sales included?

When all else fails, quote dollar sell-through. The "million" part usually impresses people.

Sony had a pretty bad month. Apart from Madden & Guitar Hero, not a single PS title made the top 20 (not PSP, PS2 or PS3). Both PSP & PS3 has one title in the top 20 - Madden.

Sales fell by 20% (approx) compared to last month across all Sony hardware.

...

Yup, that's what I call "a strong month for the Playstation brand"

 Calm before Halo's storm.

The thing that strikes me about those hardware sales... Is how poor both DS and PSP did. Under 400K for DS, and 150K for PSP? Those both seem unusually low.

I have to agree with the folks who say the Metroid v. Bioshock comparison isn't very fair. But I have to give props to Take 2 and the team in Boston for turning such a seemingly niche game into a substantial hit.

And props to VGC for a good month all-around.

1 more set of props to Microsoft, for executing Stage 1 of their holiday plan very well. 270K sales is a pretty good haul.

With Wii pulling down 100K a week, and Halo 3 coming out towards the end of next month, Wii vs. 360 is going to be VERY interesting in both Sept and Oct NPD.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Suprisingly good month for the 360 Hardware wise, particularly bad for the PS3.

Wii continues to rape up, can't believe its still out of stock.
