Forums - Sales Discussion - NPD: Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts unscrews only 140K (U.S.)

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6203773.html

"NPD provided final 2008 US sales figures to GameSpot for two 360-only titles from Microsoft's internal studio system: Lionhead's Fable II and Rare's Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. The difference between the two was striking: The former RPG sold 1.2 million units, while the latter eked out a mere 140,000 units in US sales"

Wasn't this game only $40, and came with Banjo-Kazooie? I hope this doesn't affect Rare's future, as I'll miss them, even if I haven't really enjoyed any of their games since the N64 days (except for Viva Pinata. That was pretty fun).

Yes to the first, pre-order only to the second. It's why I bought it, and I really wish I hadn't. Can't say I'll miss Rare anymore after finishing that game. =P

Ouch! Was it really that bad? Obviously I've never played it, but I liked the N64 editions well enough (even if this one seems to have almost nothing in common with those).

Most people around here seem to really like it, so I am probably in the minority. But I hated it by the time I got the last Jiggy. Starts off well enough, vehicle editor is really well done, and assuming you're patient, there's a lot of crazy parts to find. The problem is all you really have to do are the missions, which are tried cliched trite that bore you or drive you crazy demanding perfection if you want a damn trophy.

It's like if you played a Grand Theft Auto game and all you can do are the missions. No side activities or rampages and the city is split into a bunch of enclosed domes you have to teleport to and from. That may sound like a werid comparison, but it's the best I can think of, Nuts and Bolts have more in Common with GTA III then other Banjo games. There's even COPS in the game, who attack you for bumping into citizens or moving jiggies. (Which you have to do to open up more of the game.)

The world's are huge empty shells with little to find or do. There's some music notes scattered around, but they're just money to buy crap. There's a few Jinjos but they just annoy you with one of six repeating challenges. And the mission givers, which are usually your only point in being there. And each world is split Acts to further drag out how much time you waste in them.

I wouldn't mind, except the missions are the same old crap. Race, Escort, Kill or some variant of them. Over and over again. And the ground vehicles handle like horrible. Everything knocks them off course and turning is always a pain in the ass. I'm going to stick the damn thing up for sale and hope to get some money back.

According to the reviews and the demo, I'd say it's a great game
I'll get my copy next week

Kind of sad isn't it? The first one on the N64 sold like what 2 million in the USA?

I loved the original Banjo and Kazooie.

Lord alone knows why they decided to screw with a winning formula.
The game is soooo boring.

I remember when rare was a great company.
=/

hello how are you.

The situation with Rare proves, at least in part, the folly of attempting to buy market share by making massive investment and/or outright-purchasing developers when there is no guarantee of holding onto the talent that made the developer/IP in question valuable in the first place--it'd be like snapping up the publishing rights to Harry Potter and then hiring an author besides Rowling to write them.

That said I miss the idea of classic Rare that made their bones with the N64, as I miss the near-hollow shell that is present-day Sega.

Sad to hear but i hate to say told ya so

A thread called Which console has the best holiday season lineup

BHR-3 said PS3 has better lineup cause it has a game for all types of gamers

xman said 360 has all ages all types of games I am not saying sony dosent but to some research before you post something.  360 gets the wrap as being a shotter box but as you can see above there exlcusives are diverses

BHR-3 said 360 has no racer last remnant comming to ps3 and i would love to see banjo go up against lbp in ww sales

xeroxm3 said BHR-3, TLR is a timed exclusive for the 360 so it counts for this holiday season and I wouldn't underestimate Banjo's ability to sell.

BHR-3 owned that 1
