Forums - Gaming Discussion - Unbelievable.... I just have to comment

I just read through a few of the posts on a different thread, "What DON'T you like about your console"  and I just have to comment about one regarding the PS3.

It never occured to me that because of the mandatory installs, required because of the slow reading Blu-Ray drive, that eventually the HDD might fill up (depending on how many games, movies, etc...etc.. you have stored) forcing you to ERASE an older game you might not have finished or still like to play if you want to play a game you just bought.

That's absolutely insane.

So... if that scenario actually plays out for a few of you.... instead of just being able to pop in an old game that you enjoy and play it... you have to re-install it on your PS3's HDD first. What an absolutely rediculous format restriction... and yet you guys endlessly stick up for the PS3's amazing capabilities although you can't even enjoy the same basic 'gaming' functionality that the Atari 2600 gave customers back in 1977. 30 years ago.

I know...you can always buy an inexpensive upgrade to the HD, but just the fact that limitation even exists for PS3 owners is crazy to me. ANY GAME SYSTEM SHOULD PLAY THE GAME YOU PUT IN THE DRIVE WITHOUT ANY HEADACHES. PERIOD.

I'm not trying to troll here, I'm just amazed by that. That's simply crazy and if I were a PS3 owner (albeit, enjoying the likes of MSG4, LBp and Drake's Fortune) that would be more than enough to pick up the competition's console.

To defend the Playstation....It's kind of always been that way, given memory card spaces on consoles. If you had too many blocks taken up by saves...You may have to delete old saves due to room (of course, you could always just get a new card too - not an easy option with the PS3 AFIAK).

However, I do agree that, in this day and age, no gamers should choose between saves.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Bah, Nintendo is doing it as well with the amount of memory on the Wii. >>

*sigh* sad but true.

I KNOW! Like when my PS2 memory card was full up and I wanted to save my new game I had to delete saved data from another game or buy an expensive memory card! Unbelievable, isn't it!

Neither R2 or CoDWaW demanded a install, so maybe newer games are cutting this crap... About time, i say...

Flow -"The important is to pwn other ppl"

sadly I live with that on both the Wii and the PlayStation 3. My Wii is currently full and I really don't want to delete any of the games off of my system. Luckily (if you can call it lucky) there really hasn't been a lot to download lately on Wii ware. Same thing with the ps3. I was just at the store a few days ago and was looking at games to buy. I saw both Bioshock and Falllout 3 for $40 and was thinking about buying these games. When I looked at the back of the boxes it showed the games requires 5 gigs of space and I just don't have that available to me unless I want to delete my GTA4 DMC4 MGS4 etc game files.

replacing/increasing the hdd in your ps3 is piss easy, actually.

when you delete the install, the game saves still remain. they don't go with the install, so you're not 'choosing' between anything.

the 40gb ps3 can hold up to about 5-6 game installs at once. there is no chance in hell somebody is playing that many games at once. so deleting a game that you don't need/play anymore shouldn't be a problem.

ps3 owners have had to put up with installs for 2 years now, it hasn't caused any major problems for them now has it?

i find it highly amusing that people are still using installs as a majore problem. just let it go.

r2 does require an install, about 300mb. but insomniac call it an 'initial setup'.

Who has that picture of a boat heading for an iceberg with the caption "I have a good feeling about where this thread is heading"?

Anyway, the PS3 allows you to use any laptop harddrive in the PS3, which means you can get a 250gb harddrive for very cheap. I don't see the problem.

And it's not as if you'll ever have to delete save files, which are very small. You may have to uninstall games, but it doesn't take long to reinstall them, and you don't have to start the game from the start or anything.
