Forums - Gaming Discussion - Fallout 3 ,will you buy it?

I'll buy it, this game is huge and offers great experiences
after all, this is the only choice for me right now
I am sure I will pick up resistence 2 next week
and I definately wont waste my money on Little Big something

I am glad that I tried the game before buying it. It suffers from severe memory leak problems that I am waiting for Bethesda to fix. The game starts out running at a perfectly smooth FPS but as I keep using VATS it starts to slow down more and more until it turns into a slideshow and then crashes. I checked the memory that the game takes up and I confirmed that it rises significantly over time. (It went from 600MB to 1GB with 20-30 minutes)

I checked several forums and there seem to be plenty of people who are suffering from the same exact problem. I think it has mostly to do with Vista 64 bit and ATI cards but I cant really change anything about that. I wonder if I can force the game to run at 32 bit and see if that fixes the problem?

Anyways, I like the game so far. Gorgeous graphics, great atmosphere. Definitely not a FPS, if you try playing it like an FPS you will find yourself dead. It is similar to Mass Effect in terms of your skills affecting your accuracy. Right now I am in a process of killing random monsters to gain levels, so I can get my utility skills in order. The perks you should get for your first few levels should be the ones that enhance exp gain and number of skills gained. Skills are huge in this game. Unlike fallout 1 and 2 you MUST have a certain skill level to get through everything. In older games, you succeed eventually with the power of quick save.

OK, OK
Oblivion was not my cup of tea too. Mass Effect >>> Oblivion IMO, but Fallout 3 is not Oblivion!!! It is Fallout 3. Don't bash a game only cos you don't like Oblivion.
I will buy it ... but Fable 2 is first. Anyway good days for WPRG lovers too great games in such a close period of time.

No. Bethesda dropped the ball on the PS3 version. Alot of other games to buy anyway.

I'm having crash problems on the PC version...apparently this happens to a lot of buyers...lame.

Otherwise, I'm enjoying the game...it's certainly not Oblivion. I was bored with Oblivion after an hour...the setting and style and VATS combat totally makes up for Oblivion similarities.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Of course I will be buying another 360 AAA game. Sweet!

Yeah I'm having the same problem, though about 12 hours in it has only happened twice and I set it up so it autosaves often. Can't sneeeze without having an autosave afterwards

Oblivion? heck their earlier elder scroll games were a buggy mess. You pretty much had to play these with a guide just to avoid the game-critical bugs. Both Morrowind and Oblivion just cemented that opinion.

The only thing their games are good for is modding and that's not something you can do on consoles.

Again, that's your opinion. I glad you decided to be so vocal about it, because hate speech is far too quite on this forum.

Yeah, sometimes I forget forums are just to exchange smily icons at each other =(

You've mentioned your opinion, and reinforced it. I found this line a tad insulting, honestly: Bethesda always has been a crappy developer, because it goes totally against my opinion, and because i respect Bethesda and the people who work there, and if nothing else, they work hard on their games. No need to campaign your opinion around and keep trying to convince others, that's all I'm saying. You're on record. You really passionately hate Bethesda, and you hate this game simply because they developed it. I understand, and it makes me sad, but let that be the end of it. No need to continually re-enforce that already flaming opinion, with new and more relevant flaming opinions.

Saying, "Nintendo has always been a crappy developer" is what I equate your statment to. That's why I've reacted the way I did.

Late reply, been playing Fable 2 furiously ;)

You see the problem is that you find opinions that aren't inline with yours insulting. Maybe you shouldn't take your own opinion so seriously - afterall you just tossed the "hate speech" card just because I voiced a dissenting opinion. Stating the reasons why I think Bethesda is a crappy developer isn't hate speech, it isn't campaigning an opinion. Those are pretty nice words but they are just an attempt at avoiding replying to my arguments. If you don't like the reasons why I say what I say about Bethesda that's fine - but you should be arguing my reasons not sticking words with negative significance to taint my arguments.

It's also interesting that you attempt so hard to just paint my opinions as hate while at the same time not quoting my original statement. The answer is clear: because there was no hate for the game in it, there was scepticism about Bethesda's capability of delivering a game without crippling bugs or bleak gameplay.

Finally, respect and judgement about someone's work are different things. I don't need to disrespect Bethesda's workers in order to qualify the results of their job - these are two different kind of judgements.

So at this point, you either make it so that my opinion about Bethesda is wrong providing proof that their previous games shipped bug-free or back off from the discussion. But I won't let you going your way avoiding arguments just to work on the emotional side of things tainting opinion as hate speech just because you don't like what I'm saying. I mean, it's a great way to work around someone's posts ignoring their message but I'm way too aware of that trick to fall for it.

edit: just to add that "Bethesda has always been a crappy developer" and "Nintendo has always been a crappy developer" aren't the same statements - there's a track record of Bethesda shipping buggy/messed games while Nintendo has a pretty good track record of releasing quality games. And if I were insidious (sp?) enough I could go and say that was just a lame attempt at trying to get the pro-Nintendo forum goer to look at your post with a positive bias, which is of certain interest considering the majority of vgchartz users have a certain apreciation for Nintendo.
