Why American Wii owner? Is it not possible to send it to other regions?

Sadly, I have been told it is not. Of course...I've never tried it.

Yep...here's the story.

Looks like the only people that can enter this contest are people from the USA.

i just want to add - at least partial cross region gifting CAN occur. When stof and i exchanged gifts he was in canada and i was in usa. all i did was change where i said i lived in the wii settings to make it think i lived in canada. at that point exchanges were just fine. i'm just not sure how far you can push that technique but still.

bottom line - PEOPLE OF CANADA CAN PARTICIPATE. xD (assuming you're willing to put in a bit of extra effort super_etecoon)

Thanks, kit.  That's good news for you Canadians it seems.

If this works for Canada, is the same for Mexico I think

I didn't even know what shinesparking is, even though I was performing that technique for well over ten years.

lol...I agree.  It is like some people think that you need to know how to read music to play it.  So I guess the wall jumping critters are an easy answer for you, right Rol?  Or have we already had that conversation?

I had no idea how these little creatures are called, otherwise I would have answered that question. It's just like with the shinesparking, I don't know the English words for all the stuff in games.

*Searches post for sarcasm...finds none.*

Hmmm...have you ever wondered where my name comes from?

Yes, but you've answered that almost a year ago when we talked about shinesparking and why I didn't know what it is. Etecoons are the creatures who teach you this technique.

nope...etecoons are the wall jumpers.

Dachora was the shinespark teacher.

Edit:  I thought we had that conversation...but my memory is going in my old age...sorry.

Sweet, I'm always down for free stuff.

How could this be implemented into the site though? Hmmm, alright a few ideas to spitball in your general direction.

The obvious is the prediction league and has already been mentioned, so I will skip that.

Two other ideas involve one of VGCs greatest assets, it's community of funny, informed, and insightful members. People can be rewarded for their contributions to the site. I can think of two ways to do this.

(1)Monthly essay contest. The site is always looking for well written editorials and good writers to present them. This could be done either by giving a relevant topic for the month for people to muse on and then send in entries, or by making it completely open and people can write about whatever. Obviously guidelines would be given. Say 750-1000 word essay, limited profanity (but feel free to throw in a little bit of color), so many pictures allowed if any at all, ect. At the end of the contest period a group of site contributers such as the source, rocketpig, benga benga, Naznatips, y-koron or whoever vote on the best editorial and it gets posted front page, along with the reward of the game. The site gets well written articles from numerous sources, it encourages contribution to the site, and draws the community together, as well as possibly pulling in new users or lurkers. Everybody wins.

Idea (2) Something as simple as a popularity contest. Once a month people get to vote for their favorite users, winner gets free points. This would again draw the community together, but also encourage users to be friendly, funny, helpful, and intelligent in their posting. Certain draw backs include less scrupled posters trying to rig it by finding a way to vote for themself over and over, or other site hacks/flaws, or soriku just getting free wii points every month. It would take careful monitoring to make sure it stays clean and fair.

Personally, I think the first idea on essay contests being the better of the two, but I'm just spit balling here.

Regarding idea #1....sounds great.  But it would be difficult for many posters to muster that many words...and it would be even more difficult for the moderators to read through them.  Also...we'd tend to have the same people in the running every month.

Regarding idea #2...I'd realy not like to see popularity contests happening every month.  It's bad enough that they happen every few months.  They also seem to encourage dupe accounts (Did anyone else notice how many times ZackBlue voted for Leo-J in the popularity contest the last time?)

Can I have my wii points now?

Maybe I would bother to remember who is who, if these creatures would have made more appearances than in just two games.

Agreed. That's why I'm doing my best to preserve their legacy. I don't know how many times I fell into the pit with the etecoons and had to reset my game in frustration. Of course....then I actually saved down there. Now that hurt.

@ Vagabond...I know you're only joking. But I don't mean to be negative about the ideas. That's what this thread is for: a chance to discuss this idea and refine it, see if there is some way we can make it work. The other way it could work is for the users to do it. It only costs me $10 and everyone gets to play a fun little game. i get to be Santa Clause for a moment in time and have a little fun with it. That's worth more than a movie these days (hancock sucked, btw.)
