Forums - Sales Discussion - Why do people keep defending PS3 sales?

Plus I can already play FF XII, GT4, GOW II and MGS 3 on my PS2

It's the opposite really. Why are so many people downing the PS3?

Give the system a chance. I think you'll find that it's a natural reaction to a negative action from Nintendo fanboys, destined to make the life of PSP and PS3 owners a misery by stating poor games and bad sales.

Just enjoy your own console and give the others a chance.

People are so down on the PS3 because Sony made several bold statements that they've yet to back up. Sony managed to pull off a level of self sabotage that is only rivaled by N64 era Nintendo and 7800 era Atari. Its not the Nintendo or MS fans that are problem. They didn't like Sony to begin with. Most of the venom is coming from Sony fans that are pissed off at Sony over the way things went. Sony built there dominant market share off of casual gamers. They successfully tapped into this market with the PS1, particularly in Europe. Where prior to the PS1s  40 million units sold a console selling 10 million would have been considered successful. As for right now the PS3 is inaccessible to the majority of the PS fanbase and well they aren't happy about it. There are cheaper alternatives in the 360 and Wii available and those "fans" seem to take pleasure in watching their former favorite falter.

Listen it's not about credibility, I am just using facts.

Wii Sports is popular. Brain Training is popular. Nintendogs is popular. Far far more so than the likes of God of War, Metal Gear Solid and so on. This is the whole point of my original post. You may not like those games, but the general public do and unfortunately it is them who will decide the console war, not you.

However simple and pointelss you may think Wii Sports is, it is addictive and ingenious. Many of the best things in life are simple and it is pure fun. It may lack depth and detail and snazzy graphics but it does what it sets out to do - entertains. Same with Tetris, Mario Kart, Nintendogs, Brain Training. There is a reason why these are the biggest sellers ever.

Nintendo know a market like no other - Sony would do well to learn a thing or two

Wait a minute, MGS and Final Fantasy are just as popluar franchises then Nintendogs or Brain Training.

Metal Gear Solid has sold 15 million +

Final Fantasy (On PS2 alone) has sold 18 million +

These games have huge audiences, and yet you say they aren't nearly as popular? True, the games you've mentioned are also massively popular, but you shouldnt just sweep aside these million selling franchises.

These two types of games appeal to two different markets. If the PS3 or 360 did not exist I wouldnt buy a Wii, I'd turn to PC gaming. So would millions of other gamers. Sony and Microsoft are filling a niche in the market. Evidently they will want to pull some of the general market away from Nintendo, Sony is releasing LittleBigPlanet for example.

But why do you target Sony throughout this attack? Microsoft are using the exact same tactic.

"But nobody wants those games !!!

People want to play Wii Sports instead"

I'm sorry but that's just complete BS.

Ok, so some like the Wii (more then others) and some like the xbox 360 but all want a PS3.. admit it.. every forum I go to, it's the same thing.. to expensive, no games, blah, blah.. to expensive being the main reason..

It's a known fact, the thing is expensive, let those that can afford it.. enjoy it, why all the hate I like it as a media hub, I enjoy watching blu-ray on my HDTV, I also got a 360 that I had to send back twice, I would have like MS a whole lot if it wasn't for their reliability issue, and the Wii I haven't got yet because to be honest, I play at times when i get home from work, I consider myself a casual gamer, and when i get home, i really dont want to swing no stick around..so that is the reason for not having a Wii.

I think the 10 year plan will work, so what if MS drops the new X720, it will sell around 600 USD if not more, the PS3 by then will be at 350 USD, the Wii will be in every house hold, so what.. the PS3 will continue to kick ass for the fact you can upgrade the hard drive when ever you please, internet gaming is free, they have the sixaxis (that needs serious work) and if tweaked, they will kick ass. Let them be, some of you guys act as if you own SONY stocks or something.. Some nintendo stock would have been the move though..damn, boy do i wish i would have seen this coming.

sony are loosing those titles too, don't you see?, they've already lost grand theft auto, assassins creed, and the list continues, because they're such asholes, and what if, god forbid, final fantasy and metal gear solid won't be exlusive? where would sony then end up?

Sony fans just can't admit that the PS3 is selling poorly, and performing well below Sony's expectations in every way. They look at every possible way of tweaking the numbers to make the PS3 look good when it doesn't, and when they can't find favourable numbers they resort to downright lying.

That is the point of this post. We're not talking about how great the PS3 is, or how it will do in the future. The idea is that Sony PS3 is selling poorly now. I would like to see Blue3, CrazzyMan, et al admit this fact, just once, and then I will be happy to move on.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I would say a large part of the reason that people defend ps3 sales is because they aren't all that bad. Considering the price tag, which is at least 120 to 350 more than any of it's competitors it's still managed the adoption rate of the machine with 479-299 price tag. I for one think that's a victory in and of itself. If you look at the first part of the 360's chart and the ps3's chart you could just about line them up, and i don't see anyone biting microsoft for their sales with the 360 but sony no they are horrible.

I for one think that Sony's strategy with the ps3 will likely be very similar to that of the psp. I remember when everyone said no one was going to buy a 250 portable machine and now they have sold almost 22 million worldwide. Not DS numbers i know but comparing good sales to excellent sales always makes good look like it has something to be desired. But i would look for a price drop every year (just like with the psp so far) and for them to start releasing more nicely priced games , greatest hits titles and possibly a general markdown once blu-rays are less expensive to create just like with saw with their umds.

Not to mention that little beast the ps2 that Sony is still making money on as far as software and hardware are concerned.

Let me make this clear i'm not a fanboy of any system. I own a ps2 and used to own a gc, and have owned plenty of sega and nintendo consoles. I just don't understand the ps3 hate i see here. At least the ps3s don't break down and sony send people crappy refurbished machines that break often on the first day received (i do know that for a fact as i did 360 tech support for Christmas 06 and then some)Not to mention they way Microsoft loves to nickel and dime i still don't understand how xbox live flew. Since when except mmorpgs have we had to pay to play online? Hell after a few years of live service and a premium console it's more than a ps3.
