Sounds so farfetched. Nintendo would be more likely to just hoard the IP than sell it. And if Platinum had the money to buy the rights from Nintendo, then they should have had the money to port the game without a kickstarter too. They'd first have to buy the rights before they can start a kickstarter and that comes with the risk that the kickstarter doesn't bring in enough money to finance the port(s), so the money spent on the rights would be wasted. But it's Kamiya's brainchild, so maybe the financial risk didn't matter too much.

I'm not sure Nintendo would have to sell the IP. Yu Suzuki licensed Shenmue 3 from SEGA, who still own the IP.

But the Kickstarter part sounds pretty questionable. Even more so now after Platinum secured the Tencent investment.

The investment is probably more for bigger, future projects, rather than for rereleasing previous games.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

This rumor is dumb for a plethora of reasons.

* Certain areas of the game require the double screen setup of the Wii U to function properly. Technically, they can also be played in a screen-in-screen fashsion, but this is cumbersome.
* Nobody knows how much of a success TW101 on the Switch was in the first place. We know half a million sales but we don't know neither the costs of production nor the sales expectations. Calling it a flop is nothing but a good guess with nothing to back it up.
* Wii U re-releases tend to do pretty well on the Switch and give the games a second spring.
* Nintendo and Platinum have a good relationship with one another so if Platinum really wanted to do it, I highly doubt that Nintendo wouldn't handle the publishing.
* Why even a kickstarter campaign in the first place? They are trying to self-publish games nowadays. https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2020-01-07-platinum-games-accelerates-self-publishing-plans-with-tencent-investment
* I also highly doubt that PS owners have any interest in this game. An install base of 100m doesn't help at all if the audience only buys FIFA, GTA and shooters. The game fits much better on a platform with an audience that is known to accept all kind of games.
* Liam Robertson is an attention whore.
* Hideki Kamiya is a master troll.

At the end of the day I counter this rumor with my own rumor:

This is nothing but a viral marketing stunt to make people talk about Kamiya, PG and TW101 so that on monday Kamiya can make a snorty post on Twitter to insult everyone who believed it.

Could they buy Nintendo's half in Bayonetta 2? I would throw my whole bank account in a Bayonetta 2 Kickstarter for PS4.

Bayonetta belongs to SEGA, so the answer to this would be no.

Bayonetta 2 belongs to nintendo.

Seems a bit weird tbh. Didn't Platinum want to publish their own game a little while back? If they cant even afford to port a WiiU game, then that dream may be a way off.

SEGA owns the Bayo IP. Nintendo owns the code for 2 and 3. So not even SEGA can put Bayo 2 on anything else if they wanted. They likely would have to remake the game using new code and assets. That aint going to happen. I feel like this sis 2014 still.

Didn't Nintendo own the code for TW101? They created and published this IP

Besides, Bayonetta 2 PS4/PS5/XB1/XSX/PC would surely be profitable even with Sega re-starting from scratch. They just have to go this way.

man if this turns out to be real then this makes me annoyed at Nintendo more than anything

they'll give all these other Wii U games a second chance at life on Switch but not TW101, even after all they and Platinum have done together? It never had a chance on the Wii U and doesn't deserve to be left to die there.

especially after they ported TOKYO FUCKING MIRAGE SESSIONS like where's the excuse for this then

Spoiler!
would cop a pc version tho if it happens

Yes and to your second thing. No and not a chance.

The excuse for TW101 is as simple as Platinum Games would be the studio designated to handle the port. However, Platinum Games has had their hands full with the Switch titles Bayonetta 1+2, Astral Chain and Bayonetta 3, all of which should understandably take priority over TW101.

While they do certainly have other things that take priority, I feel like it's different if they have go to to kickstarter for this, assuming this comes true. That would mean Nintendo would have had to sell the rights to them or at least agree to this, which more likely means they outright just don't care for it anymore rather than "hey, just finish these things first then you can do a port later". Them doing a kickstarter for this port would still have to be developed by them so it would still be taking resources anyway, so it ultimately doesn't even change anything aside from Nintendo's involvement.

So perhaps me saying no excuse is a bit hyperbole, but it does just seem strange.

So let me recap. Nintendo owns the code and the IP for TW101. TW101 will come to PS4.

Nintendo (maybe) owns the code for Bayonetta 2, Sega owns the IP. Bayonetta 2 project was started on PS3 and X360, there are PS and XB versions of Bayonetta 2 in PG's computers. Bayonetta shipped 1m on PS4/XB1, Bayonetta 2 shipped 600K on WiiU/Switch and you think there is 0% chance for Bayonetta 2 to come to PS4. Is that right?

Insiders on Resetera are saying that Nintendo sold the IP rights to the Wonderful 101 to Platinum
