Platinum paid for rights. Seems pretty clear cut to me.

If that was the case, they would have said something about where the IP rights lie.Instead, they are keeping it a secret. So its clear that they didnt buy it... as of yet.

I cannot believe that no one seems to see this for what it is ....

Spoiler!
... Nintendo testing the waters of going third party.  The DOOM is real!

I never thought this could happen. Guess I was wrong.

So... They only needed 50k to make a Switch version happen? That seems kind of odd. Even if Nintendo only made 5 bucks a copy, they'd only need to sell 10k to make that back.

At any rate, Nintendo should have just published it. There's a lot of potential for this franchise. But at least now more people will have the opportunity to play it.

Very weird of Nintendo to not just publish this themselves. I know it didn't sell that well on WiiU, but look at all the games that got a second life on the Switch!

Now we need a Pikmin 3 kickstarter!

Pocky Lover Boy!

This is totally unprecedented. Nintendo has never allowed something similar in its almost 40 years in the videogame industry.

Given the fact that the IP seems to still belong in part to Nintendo... will there still be a giant Nintendo banner at the beginning of the game on the PS4 version? Because that would be absolute madness xDDDDD

Well Nintendo might have been willing to do it, but Platinum wanted to publish it themselves. We don't really know. Just sounds weird to me for Nintendo to say no to a cheap port of a game from a company they are very close to.

Nintendo is giving a lifeline to Platinum to go into their self-publishing dreams.
And from that good deed, they might expect rewards in return if all goes well.

Could be the TW102 sequel some have already commented.

Platinum are looking to go into self publishing and I assume they have say over publisher for a switch version.

Has Nintendo ever co-owned an IP before?

Probably not cause they aren't publishing so no need for their name to be anywhere else but in the credits copyright, if they are still co-owners.

Hotel Dusk, Another Code, Another Code R and Last Window were co-owned by Nintendo and CING. But then CING went bankrupt... and Nintendo kept all of it. Not that it matters, because while CING was alive, it never developed a multiplatform game of any of these franchises...

I guess you are right. Just a mention at the end of the credits. But it would have been hilarious to see the game intro with that giant Nintendo banner on a PS4 xD
