Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Luigi’s Mansion 3 will have an achievements-type feature

Achievements nowdays are just there make up for lack of things to do in game by making it a grind instead of putting a effort.

I dont care that Ive healed 1 million health or done 10 headshots..

every time that pop up at the corner of the screen with a new one it destroys my immersion.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Seems like to those who dissed trophy things, "trophy hunter" doesn't exist? Also almost every single enthusiastic PlayStation player around me are that type of people who have average 20+ platinums. Can't really say achievement system is no important just because it doesn't exist on Nintendo system.

It's not important to me.

I own an Xbox 360 and I have achievements turned off on it. If other people like them, fair enough, to each their own, but that doesn't mean I have to.

Given Switch's excellent sales, it doesn't seem that lacking them is a problem for most gamers.

About time, I will always pick a game with achievements over one without. Probably one of the main reasons I only pick up my switch every couple of weeks, despite having every single 1st party game released so far on it. Even though i don't chase achievements anymore, I just like having them there as a way to show my progress in every game iv played.

So I have two games for you;

One you’d like a lot on the left on a system without trophies, and one you’d find terrible on the right on a system with trophies.

Which one do you pick?

I’d argue taking the full installed base into account, on PlayStation at least, hardly anyone cares at all about these things, because whenever I look at the trophies list out of curiousity, they all have a terribly low attainment rate. Except the ones that are progress based obviously. Pretty much all of the ones where you have to go out of your way to do something special have a single digit percentage, or even just 1%. Platinums and multiplayer based trophies are often even lower.

Unless it's connected to an account-wide system it's pretty pointless. Nintendo need to get with the times.

Achievement systems are a fantastic way of keeping track of what you've played, when you played it and how much you completed. As well as seeing what your friends have been playing and how far they got also.

Honestly I turned off the trophy notifications on my ps4.

Yep, I turned them off on my Xbox 360 too. I just prefer them not to get in the way of my gaming experience.

During the 360 era, I would actually play games just for achievements. But I eventually stopped when I got tired of playing underwhelming games or playing games more than I really desired.

However, achievements are still an excuse to try some fun things you might not have done otherwise. Sometimes its like a suggestion of things to try in a game. I'm still a fan of the concept I just don't make an effort to really hunt for them, especially if its time consuming.

I never cared for Sony's trophy system because I don't want to make the effort for platinums, that feels like a huge waste of time.

Yeah, sometimes looking back at stuff you played can be interesting.

That's also what I love about the recording clips and taking pictures. Something I don't believe Nintendo has really embraced either.

Achievements are to games as canned laughter is to Sitcoms. It's meant to appeal to a certain kind of consumer.
I don't want to say people are wrong for needing this sort of thing, but I will never understand the motivation for that sort of gimmickry, no matter how widespread it is.
