Achievements are to games as canned laughter is to Sitcoms. It's meant to appeal to a certain kind of consumer.
I don't want to say people are wrong for needing this sort of thing, but I will never understand the motivation for that sort of gimmickry, no matter how widespread it is.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
