Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Luigi’s Mansion 3 will have an achievements-type feature

Article

Switch doesn’t have a built-in achievements system, meaning its up to individual games to include that sort of feature. With Luigi’s Mansion 3, it appears that this is something Next Level Games is implementing.

While nothing has been said officially, achievements have been spotted in the latest build for Luigi’s Mansion 3 at PAX West 2019. One such feat involves destroying a hammer with a single tether. We should be hearing more about other achievements leading up to the game’s Halloween launch.

I always find the lack of achievement system on Nintendo side make me less attracted to play games on their console, it's time for them to create a "trophy" system

I remember thinking achievements were cool when they first released, but got over them rather quickly. I can't say some arbitrary inconsequential 'award' does anything for me.

Completely agree. A proper chat system as well. The only two games I have put serious time into on Switch are Mario and Pokemon. If they had a system wide Trophy system, I would have a huge reason to go back and grind through Mario Kart, New Super Mario, Mario Tennis, Zelda BOTW, and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. Without chat and a reward system, I just have too many better options to play on other platforms.

I really hope that this is a sign that Nintendo are finally going to embrace Gameplay Rewards into their ecosystem. I'm really looking forward to Luigi's Mansion 3, and I would be thrilled if it turned out to be the first official Trophy game on a Nintendo Platform. Iwiould definilty put the time in to 100% it just like I did with Super Stardust HD and Uncharted on PS3.

Same here, I find them distracting, immersion-breaking and kinda annoying personally.

Honestly I turned off the trophy notifications on my ps4.

Yep, I turned them off on my Xbox 360 too. I just prefer them not to get in the way of my gaming experience.

There was a timeframe in which gamers dismissed games that did not have Trophies. Pitiful times. I did not care about trohies at all, but nowadays though, they serve a purpose; Extending the time I spend on a game. I do not buy games at the frequency that I used to, so when I do, I wanna drag it out for as long as possible. Assuming I really enjoyed the game and they're not ridiculous to get(Star Ocean 4) I will go trophy hunting.

Interesting. Why would this be a reason to ‘grind’? Shouldn’t ‘having fun’ be the reason to grind? If just for recieving some arbitrary line somewhere saying you did something arbitrary, why even care in the slightest? Can’t you grind without that?

I’m honestly interested, for me there’s no point whatsoever. I never saw it, I must be missing something.
