Forums - Gaming Discussion - Genesis/Megadrive Mini is going to be the best mini-console ever made!

I dont think it will do better than the NES and SNES classics as Nintendo products also hold a collectors value. Where as Sega doesnt really hold the same value. The game library is comparable but Nintendo is Nintendo which creates hoarders

It only took them how many tries to get it right? I'll wait for the reviews. They're put out too many of these with AT Games for me to trust without the final verdict

Just to inform you; they cancelled their partnership with AT Games for a home based partner just to keep closer tabs on the development.

Yes, I am very excited about SEGA mini. I was not initially because of AT games but after the announcement that they dropped them, M2 are are behind the ports/Emulation ANNNNND Yuzo Koshiro will be doing the sounds and music, they snagged me.

It offers more games than the SNES Mini, but not better games. Most titles are heavily outclassed by their SNES counterparts

Nah, SNES and Megadrive are pretty even in terms of legendary games.

I grew up on the Genesis. I didn't start playing SNES games until the early 2000's. SNES blows Genesis away with it's games. Most Genesis exclusives were short 2 hour long arcade games. Meanwhile Nintendo, and Square were putting out these long epic games on SNES.

Double dragons 2 holds up the best, of what i've played as long as you are playing with a sideways wiimote or preferably a NES controller with a player 2. Although I havn't tried it this decade I believe Ninja Gaiden is supposed to have held up the best by general consensus, at least from what i have gauged and supposedly The Messenger (which is probably the best side scroller I have ever played) and it's first half is still edging on NG. I hope to try it when I can and see if that is BS or not.

Ninja Gaiden holds up great, as long as you can deal with the last boss being bonkers hard. I played it five or seven years ago.

For me, the big draws would have been CV:Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps, but I just got the CV Collection for Switch. The rest of these I have on the Genesis Collection for Switch

I love world of illusion I owned it as a child, was my favorite Genesis game alongside Sonic 3. Can't wait for this

The only problem i ever had with Sega genesis was all the multiplate games. Like Street Fighter 2 Turbo is better than Sega's CSE. Mortal Kombat II-?? are all better on the SNES graphics, colors and controls.

One thing I dont get about this mini console is why are they releasing the 3 button controller? I thought sega later on did a 6 button one to compete with the SNES? Since a lot of multiplateform titles used all 6 buttons

What doesn't make sense to me is that Super Street Fighter 2 is also on the sega genesis.  With better graphics and more characters.  Why on earth would they choose championship edition?  it makes 0 sense.

Honestly you should add Mega man the willy wars in the OP. That alone makes the $ worth it. It is an updated version of mega man I-III with bonus stages. And was only playable in NA on the sega channel. It is probably the rarest game on Megadrive and something hardly anyone played

The driving force behind there retro mini consoles, for me, is nostalgia. I played a few Genesis games and even owned one later in life but my heart belongs to Nintendo. I've even recently become aware that certain Genesis games were better than their NES counterparts. Doesn't matter. I just don't have that nostalgia.

It could come packed with the entire Genesis library. I'm just not in the market for one

What other console can you do this!

That's no console anymore, that's a towering inferno =)

Tetris Megadrive is rarest they only made 5 copies ?

Nah sega had no license for Tetris, and willy wars had no copies in NA except for imports.
