Castlevania 2 is a good one. That game feels like a beta Metroidvania. Thing is that it executes everything so WRONG. If you remade Castlevania 2 correctly that game would be amazing.

Is it really that bad, or are you just channeling AVGN?

No, I played through Castlevania 1,2, and 3 all this month. I am also playing through Order of Ecclesia on the DS right now.  If you played Castlevania 2 and other Metroidvania games you will notice on how Castlevania 2 is more similar to the later games than the classic games of the NES. This made Castlevania 2 feel like a beta for later Castlevania games on the handhelds and Symphony of the Night.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

An old favourite of mine on the N64 could do really well these days if it was completely remade for current and future hardware. That game waa called Hybrid Heaven.

Kingdom Hearts 1- It's not that it sucks, but it just isn't good compared to the rest of the series. At its heart, the gameplay is a really simplistic button mashy beat em up. In entries 2 and beyond, the game gives you tons of ways to beat up enemies so that even though it's simple, the beating up action doesn't get stale. In the first however, it's just too repetitive.

Sonic Adventure- Again doesn't suck exactly, but the game definitely needs a new coat of paint. The Sonic segments hold up fairly well, but the rest of the game... meh.

LA Noire- Somewhere in the game's long dev cycle there was a switch between an open world style game, and more of a point and click adventure. As a result there is a huge identity crisis in the game. You have a huge open world with nothing to do in it, and shooting and crime segments that just seem out of place. A good game can be made following either direction.

Mass Effect 3- Just to fix the shit ending.

Kid Icarus- A classic that just really hasn't aged well. A Zero Mission style remake would do wonders.

Mario 64 DS- This one is strange... but hear me out. The game made a lot of great additions to an already amazing game. It's fun to use different characters, and the extra worlds/levels are great. The problem is that the game doesn't have analog controls. With one simple change, 64 DS could be even better than 64.

Street Fighter 1- The controls make this unplayable. A version with competent controls and the ability to play as other characters besides Ryu and Ken would make for a really neat novelty. Make it with an existing engine and release it for 10-15 bucks.

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite- A sad ending for a great series. At its core, this game is similar to MVC3 so it should be fun, but a lot of stylistic changes, and some changes made in Disney board rooms, ruined it. It really wouldn't take much to turn this into a worthy entry in the Infinite series.

Shenmue- This game was incredibly ahead of its time when it released. Mind bendingly so. But... that time has passed, and in particular, the open world genre has evolved. Won't ever happen, but it's be great for Shenmue to take advantage of the advances in a genre it helped create.

Which ones?

Elder Scrolls and Fallout

Stealth needs some work, but what  realy nedds improvement is the damn melee combat. I swear, Elder scroll got one of the wrost gameplays for melee combat among AAA games, even ancient games like Zelda OoT have much better combat.

Castlevania ii was our first game in the series. Probably because of the old Captain N cartoon. We didn't even call it Castlevania ii. We just called it Simon's Quest!

But I digress. At the time, I loved it. It was a little jarring going back and playing the first game and seeing how different and how much harder it was. I wanted Dracula's Curse to be more like Simon's Quest but I know I was on the minority.

And kudos to you for playing the series in this day and age. My old bones couldn't deal with the stress. I get anxiety just thinking about some of those old NES games!

This thread seems like a good idea but gamers are an unforgiving lot. The name alone is probably enough to turn some away. Reviewers also seen to be harsher on some series than others.

Final Fantasy 8 is pretty shitty.

Remake it and remove the junction system put back the classic FF system or make it Kingdom Hearts style.

Oh, my dude. Hollow Knight is an over rated game, So much was sacrificed for the art style that it's silly, it's a mobile game hiding in the guise of an artistic metroidvania that misunderstands the genre.

They don't have to remake it but have a look at the thread topic. My, dude.

Still DNF though... still wtf?

You have got to be kidding with that statement.

Dirt Rally would be great if they injected some personality into it like the Dirt games before it, it's just too dull even for a rally sim.

Half-Life 2 would be great if they continued with the black comedy style of the original, not the dystopian and the disgusting alien slime spiders it had.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

I wanted to play Aliens Colonial Marines, until it released and everyone said it was terrible. So I guess that’d be a candidate.
