No, I played through Castlevania 1,2, and 3 all this month. I am also playing through Order of Ecclesia on the DS right now.  If you played Castlevania 2 and other Metroidvania games you will notice on how Castlevania 2 is more similar to the later games than the classic games of the NES. This made Castlevania 2 feel like a beta for later Castlevania games on the handhelds and Symphony of the Night.
