Final Fantasy I for NES

Around the Network

JRPG? Illusion of Time, also known as Illusion of Gaia

Western RPG? Tough to say. I think it was Baldurs Gate.

If it counts, probably Zelda II. Otherwise, maybe Dragon Warrior. Nintendo Power once ran a promotion where you got Dragon Warrior free (!) for subscribing, so that was nice. But then I fell in love with Final Fantasy, and I guess my avatar shows the result...

Adventure Atari 2600

final fantasy nes or dragon warrior nes

Totally forgot about that! It's how I got my copy of the game too!

Chrono Trigger, I saw an employee playing FFVI in a rental store and he said it was one of the best games ever made and how RPGs had amazing stories and deep rich worlds, but I complained about the graphics of RPGs of the time and he said "If you care about graphics your should play chrono trigger", I rented that game and then got hooked on RPGs and when I returned to the game a month had passed or so and they showed me the first trailer for FFVII I was blown away.

IMHO that's not an RPG.

No character progression (increasing stats, better weapons), no story, no dialogues...

Riddle of the Sphinx, Atari 2600.

Well, it's more of an Action Adventure with RPG elements.

Otherwise, Dragon Warrior for NES.

This is almost exactly what I was going to write.  Zelda I if it counts, otherwise Dragon Warrior (because of the Nintendo Power promotion).

Faxanadu on NES. I’d post a pic of it but I fail at posting pics on this site.

Not my first RPG(ish) game (is Faxanadu really an RPG?).

But man I love Faxanadu. I still play it from time to time to this day. To me a true frogotten gem!
