While it's nice that it's finally coming, you have to wonder what the heck the higher ups at Capcom are thinking. They could've released this last year, instead they said they had no plans on releasing it at all, shattering the hope of those who looked forward to playing it. And now, a year later, with a newer Monster Hunter game out, it somehow makes sense to localise it? I...seriously don't understand you Capcom.

It all makes sense from the angle of moving Monster Hunter away from Nintendo. Monster Hunter World got all of the preferential treatment it could possibly get while the odds for success have been stacked against Switch as much as possible. Generations Ultimate will likely be dubbed as a test game to see if it's worth it to port World to Switch.

Regardles performance of this game and possibility of porting MHW to Switch, Capcom most likly has in development new MH game for Switch.

The last numbers Capcom gave were 350k for Japan and since the 3DS version was never localized, i believe the western sales can push it over 1 million worldwide.

MHW populated MH to West quite bit, games on Switch are selling very good in any case, and like you wrote 3DS version was never localized, so IMO we will have at least 1m+ in West only.

I have never played a game of Monster Hunter before and I was tempted to buy some on my 3DS but in the end I decided not to buy them because I had many games to play and I had always heard that Monster Hunter games consumed your life (lol). I have to say that the trailer for this game impressed me and I probably bought it.

I mean Capcom kinda HAS to make a proper switch MH in the future. Simply because Sony ditched the portable market. Most MH players in Japan are the psp/3ds crowd, sometimes buying a psp/3ds soley for monhun on the go.

That's the thing, Monster Hunter is no longer a Japan specific phenomenon (MHW Japan: 3m, Rest of the world: 5m).  It now ranks in the west along side Resident Evil and Street Fighter.  Capcom does not have to prioritize Japan/portability for the franchise anymore.

Evident by the fact they are self publishing the series outside Japan.

I kinda figured it'd be coming West to the Switch at SOME point with how well the Switch is selling.

MH is Nintendo's baby, after all.

Will wait for the Nintendo fans to accuse Nintendo of paying for the exclusivity as they accused Sony of paying to keep MHW from only Switch.

I mean... but Nintendo probably did though actually, don't they publish these titles in the west?

I thought it was a widely held theory that Nintendo paid for MH exclusivity during the 3DS-era.
