Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What you you want improved in an early switch revision?

While incremental upgrades is only a recent phenominon on home consoles, in the handheld space it has become a de facto standerd to realese a slightly upgraded version not long after realese.

If there is a DS lite type of upgrade to the switch, what do you want on it?

One of my theories is a dual kick stand configuration. With dual kickstands its going to be MUCH more stable, and this way you also have room for another sd card slot which would DRASTICALLY increase the maximum amount of upgradable storage.

A recent tegra would be a start.

I'm mainly worried about a New 3DS-style revision which has exclusive games, because it locked me out of getting games that I wanted to get for the console. As long as I don't need to upgrade, I'd be fine with anything really.

More power.

Well there is only one new tegra that they could feasably use right now, the x2, which isn't that much stronger, though it would probably be enough to smooth out performance by increasing framerate or resulution in games which the switch can't perfectly handle (xenoblade 2 portable mode cough). Though the most significant upgrade would be battery life.

That kind of upgrade won't be here soon, at least not untill late 2019. It took them 4 years for the N3DS. Also took them 4 years for the DSi.

And besides the brunt of the games would be compatable with the original system unless nintendo goes with the continuous upgrade model that smartphones do. Even the GBC, which was arguably a new generation, didn't have that many exclusives.

I suppose a smaller handheld only Switch and a home console only Switch could work like the 2DS being the budget models with the normal Switch being the high end model I guess.

I'm impressed with the level of power the Switch offers, it can achieve much of the gameplay mechanics you would find on ps4 or xbone albeit with much inferior graphics and sometimes frame rates. For me I'd like to see a small reduction in size and better battery runtime with a price drop all easily possible together. I realise it will have to keep to a format to use the existing joycon design so suspect externally it will just be slightly smaller with a slightly smaller dock. I suspect the first revision won't be smaller just making use of a improved fabrication process to make it cooler running and more battery efficient. It can't be long before the existing 20nm fabrication process actually starts costing Nintendo extra money if it hasn't already. 14nm or less should be easily possible. I just hope Nintendo don't use it as an opportunity to put in a lower capacity battery which will drop battery runtime to match the original Switch release.

Whatever Nintendo needs to do something as in Europe at least it needs a cheaper Switch.

charging on top....

clamshell design with OLED... so no need for kick stand... i feel sorry for CNET people since they cannot make it work

Smaller size, higher res, more power, OLED, better IO, ect.

Smaller, 4G LTE, Phone Calls & Texting

Honestly, I would like to see it come in three tiers similar to the 3DS when they revise and move to improved fabrication. The current model should become the low end tier similar to 2DS, a Pro tier Should become the new standard, and the Switch Phone should be the XL of the bunch.

Would be awesome if Nintendo could make Switch $199.99, $299.99, and $399.99 by 2019, while offering the three tiers above.
