GTS is one of the best GT ever released. It’s the best online racing game on the market, that’s what the game was said to be. It delivers on what was promised 100%.
Everyone who sees the level of detail and understands the work it takes to reach such a level of sophistication understand why they took 4 years to completely rebuild the game from scratch. It deserves respect not disrespect, like you say.
The game is down to 30-45 Euros everywhere here in Germany already. The funny thing is now people are complaining it has dropped too fast in price.... Some people just love to complain!

After over 100 hours actual driving time with the game (almost lvl 37) I'm pretty bored with it. Yes the driving is amazing, but the online game has fallen into the pit of routine.
Finishing the single player content took about 20 hours of driving time, which was fine, but there's literally no reason to ever touch it again after getting gold on it all. You don't get more money or xp. The AI on professional is way too easy in arcade mode. You can race against a higher class to make it more difficult, but why would you have to handicap yourself in such a way.
Online you have the regular lobby mode which you really have to invest time into to find good regular rooms or risk joining rooms that just sit idle, disband as soon as the race you were waiting for to end finishes (can't do anything while a race is ongoing) or as usual get into a big bumper fest.
Sport mode was supposed to fix all that, and it does a bit. Once you get to SR S rank you do get matched with people that try not to hit you. However there are still some bad apples (it's not that difficult to get back into S class) and the penalty system is pretty broken. Except in rare cases both people get punished. Worse if you get hit by someone who knocks you into another person that goes off track, you also end up with a 10sec penalty. Get knocked off track so you end up cutting a corner, upto 15 sec penalty. Someone cuts you off, pushes you off track, slams on the brakes, or hits the wall and careens into your path, you get punished. Get disconnected by the server, you get punished. It only takes 2 or 3 incidents in a race to get a red ranking at the end, 2 or 3 races in a row, and you lose your S rank, faster if it involves a server disconnect or more incidents during the race. Basically after a red ranking, better make sure you give everyone a wide berth next race and check your mirrors to clear a path in time for traffic that might not brake in time.
If you do get downgraded to A, expect to drive very carefully for 5 races to get back to people that at least try to drive clean. That usually means falling all the way to the back while not getting hit in the process. Basically sacrificing your DR rating to get back to S rank. Not that higher DR ratings make any difference. The matchmaking in S class is pretty limited and usually matches you with people of all DR ranks anyway, including laggy players from far away. Getting into a race that's evenly matched is pretty rare and with DR ranking going up and down so fast it can't be trusted anyway.
On to the actual races. The roster is pretty boring. There's only 3 races to chose from each day with big intervals in between. An hourly 10 lap 20 player race, half hourly 4 lap 16 player race and a 3 lap 12 player race every 20 minutes. 3 laps is always with a very slow car with sports tires. 4 lap race sometimes sports sometimes race tires always Gr.3 car, 10 lap race always Gr.4 cars. Besides the limited car selection, never a rally track, nor the Nordschleife. There aren't that many tracks to begin with, in sports mode there are even less. Success in the race all depends on your start position, so prepare to grind that qualifying time beforehand. Qualifying times stand for the day, so you'll likely see the same people in pole position over and over.
Then you have the championship rounds, 2 each night except Tuesdays (server maintenance, can't play Tuesday nights). Races start on the hour, you can join one per night. It all depends on the hectic 10 minute, 20 car on track qualifying round, how well you will do. The championship rounds are simply longer versions of the normal races (20 minutes, not that long) with 20 cars on track. More chances to get penalties! You get points at the end which are still a mystery to me. (Got 189 points for a win, 1230 points for placing 5th, err) Not that it matters, after 3 weeks it's still only test rounds and means nothing.
Sorry, this turned into quite a long review.
TLDR Skyrim VR came just in time, GT Sport was turning into a borefest. No surprises, same old routine every day with a frustrating penalty system taking the joy out of fighting for position. Heck, people on my friends list have already turned to the dark side and given up on rankings, join the crash fest where you can at least win a race now and then.
