I'm pretty sure Alex from Nintendo Life scoffed at someone for saying SMO is overrated. I would not take their opinions seriously.

I don't think it should be compared based on the previous iteration though, it should be compared based on the other games that are released around the same time. For example, Final Fantasy X obviously had to be compared to different games when it was released in the remastered form. Giving it a minimum of the same score as the original would make much less sense. |
Yeah, I was speaking about more immediate remasters and such, akin to PS3 to PS4 Last of Us or last gen to current gen GTA V. Obviously when enough time has passed re-releases or remasters may not score as well... an example that occurs to me is when the Legend of Zelda (original) was first brought to the Virtual Console and many gave it a ~7/10. In its time it was a clear 10/10, but it shows its age more now and doesn't really stand out like it once did.

I would I argue that Ultra Sun/Moon have more improvements from Sun/Moon than MK8D had from MK8 (MK8-D is still the best in the series for me tho) |
Well that's probably fair from one point of view, I was just thinking of all the extra maps included from former DLC. Otherwise, the vastly improved battle system fixed the only serious flaw the game had.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe:
Looks better (1080p vs 720p)
Runs better (60FPS vs 59FPS)
Has almost twice the tracks (as it packs in the DLC)
Has more racers (even beyond DLC)
Improves the racing systems (Two items at a time, ultra mini turbo)
Adds a proper battle mode.
Adds portability.
I think Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a substantial upgrade, despite it leaving most of the core racing mechanics mostly unchanged.
That is only if we include the merging of the DLC from Mario Kart 8 into the base game with Deluxe.

True true. I totally forgot about the dlc, so including that in makes the case better for 8-deluxe. However, new tracks and characters can be bought as dlc for the original game, while that not the case for Sun/moon, and ultra sun/moon. I could totally see you point of view on this.
Bet with Intrinsic:
The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.
Managed to get the game early and have beaten the main story, and have dabbled in the post game.
This game is not a 10. I felt bittersweet about S/M, but still gave it about an 8. US/UM wasn't bad per se, but I certainly wish more was put into it.
8.2 would be a more appropriate score. Good game, just nothing adding to make it vastly superior to the originals. I'll be waiting to see how they handle HD pokemon

Yet despite all of that it's still somehow a worse game than the original. Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon on the other hand, I doubt are any worse than Sun & Moon, though that doesn't mean it'll suddenly be the second coming because Sun & Moon were awful to begin with. Also, AngryLittleAlchemist, thanks for reminding me why NintendoLife is crap. I never associated that name with anything good, but wasn't sure why - the moment you mentioned "Alex from NintendoLife" I remembered what exactly is so bad about it... those dudes just suck. |
care to explain?

Wow. Do you really not see how hypocritical your crusade against objective reviews is when you also make comments like this?

Uhm ... not really. What do you mean?
Can't say that I agree....
Mostly cuz I still haven't even played the games Dx I wanted to Nuzlocke them and draw a comic series about that, but since I haven't been able to do that yet, the game's been put on hold. Who knows when I'll finally be able to play it, haha...
Dance my pretties!
