Would a hit in content or game logic be acceptable for hitting resolution targets ?

They can cut back on the effects as much as they want.
I am happy playing any games from any era (PS1/PS2 etc') provided they are on PC and the resolution is at my native 1440P so everything is clean, sharp and clear.

If it has blur due to poor anti-aliasing, low resolutions, blur-effect filters... And all of the above+more... Then I will criticise it. Heavily. I am pretty consistent on that front, regardless of platform.

So I assume that cutting content or game logic is not acceptable to hit resolution targets then ?

You shouldn't have to.

i remember, not all that long ago, a cerftain other console getting crazy hate for being heavy on ports and remasters, now the shoes on the other foot it's considered a good thing, funny how that works.

Looks like you're alleging there exist double standards. There likely are but unless you're gonna start naming names, not sure one can do anything about anything...

Also, this is the Switch getting ports of current gen games, not previous gen games.

also as the 'inferior late port' arguement, well the portability shies it away from being an inferior port.

< downgraded graphics
< huge feature removed
< portable on ps4 via remote play ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqTT3JrAOAI )
< portable on pc via streaming ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaftEwNElM4 )
< portable on xbox one via streaming to windows device (
http://www.xboxoneuk.com/xbox-one/news/glitch-lets-you-stream-xbox-one-to-your-smartphone-and-heres-how/ )

Does it run natively on tablet streamed from tv, or vita/android/windows phone? nope, but it's perfectly possible to play it portably on those systems if you wish to do so (and for longer, since it uses way less battery to stream than it does to run natively), having that ability doesn't change the fact that the switch version is inferior.

-yes graphic is downgraded because Switch is few time weaker than PS4/XB1

-Level editor is definitely note huge feature, nobody really cares about level editor on Doom

-First on PS4 via remote play you can play just some of games, you need PS4 and onother hardware (in this case Vita), and you need constantly strong internet conetion. On Switch you can play any game in portable mode, you need just one hardware, you dont need internet conection. So its obviosly things are totaly difrent if you compare Switch handheld play and PS4 remote play.

-Playing via PC you need PC hardware and internet connection.

-Again you need windows devaice and internet connection.

So we talking about huge differences if we talk about playing some game on Switch in full handheld mode compared to playing some game on other platform in portable mode. With Switch, you get full home console and full handheld experience with one device, and you getting that without streaming or need for internet connection, and thats actualy huge advantage for games on Switch compared to same games on PS4/XB1/PC.

NBA 2k and these two games pretty much confirm that FIFA is due to laziness.  There is no reason for that game to have cut content.  That is on EA, not the Switch.

NBA 2K18 = 30FPS Doom = No level editor Wolfenstein 2 = ??? DQH1/2 (cross-gen titles!) = 20-30FPS (Switch), 60FPS (PS4) Sonic Forces = 30FPS

Not only does all of the above have graphical downgrades or will feature graphical downgrades but I imagine Doom and Wolfenstein 2 will be 30FPS while FIFA 18 = 60FPS + No journey mode ...

So who's the lazy one now since EA at least maintained a staple in the franchise with 60FPS while you'll most likely be getting 30FPS in Doom from Bethesda AND cut content too ?

What is the Switch going to do about 30FPS titles on PS4/X1 ?! (Is the Switch going to get 'Pocket Edition' just like FFXV did ? Even lower framerate ? What change in content is it going to be ?)

Despite 30 FPS for NBA 2K and despite Fifa does not have Journey Mode, they look like good ports. And ofcourse that because power difference between PS4/XB1 and Switch, things like those are expected for Switch ports, ofcourse that nobody expects 1:1 port from PS4 to Switch. So I really dont understand whats your point!?

Also, having full AAA home console games in full handheld mode is way more important and bigger thing than point that some games work in 30fps or measuring some mode or level editor (nobady relly cares about level editor on Doom).

My point is with the Switch is that you can't keep expecting the same content when devs are downporting from home consoles and that's especially true when it comes to AAA 30FPS games ...

Despite both Doom and FIFA 18 running 1080p/60fps on PS4, the Switch version still had cuts in content ... (Maybe Switch could've handled full FIFA 18 on Frostbite 3 at the cost of 30FPS but we'll never know.)

At that point Switch having 'full' AAA 30FPS home consoles games on the go comes into even more questioning ... (At what point does the port stop becoming the 'full' AAA game on the Switch with changes to content, level design or even potentially the gameplay itself ?)

But you will get almost all content on Switch, again Doom lever editor is not important or any deal breaker, NBA 2K has same content like PS4/XB1 version (FPS is not content), Skyrim seem also same like PS4/XB1 but it will not get mods support at launch (but even PS4 version didnt had mods), and actualy only Fifa dont have Jorney Mode and thats beacuse difrent engine "that will be more subtible for Switch" (hardly Fifa could run at 1080p/60FPS-720p/60FPS on Switch with Frostbyte 4 engine).

We still dont know at what FPS Doom will work on Switch, Fifa is 60 fps, and NBA 2K is 30 fps, Skyrim is 30 FPS same like PS4/XB1 versions, but you sound like evre 3rd party game on Switch is 30 fps compared to 60 fps on PS4/XB1, and thats not true offcourse. NBA 2K could run at 60 fps with bigger graphic downgrades, but devs wanted better visuals instead of 60 fps, and graphically NBA 2K on Switch is holding quite well compared to PS4/XB1 versions of game. You don't have any changes in level design, only difference is power, and of course that power will effect on things like graphics or frame rate (or in case of Fifa Journey Mode beacuse of difrent engine), offcourse that ports from PS4/XB1 to Switch will not be 1:1, its expected they will be downgraded in some degree.

@Bold That's only true so far for 60FPS titles on home consoles but we don't know if that will remain true for 30FPS titles for home consoles ...

We may not know the frame rate on Doom yet but if we go by precendent such as titles like NBA 2K18, DQH1/2 and Sonic Forces (all of them beng 30FPS on Switch while 60FPS for PS4) we can imagine that Doom on Switch will be 30FPS too since CPU power seems to be the most limiting factor to being able to hit 60FPS on PS4 in those games and with the Switch having a 2x slower CPU, it should translate to a 2x lower framerate ...

But FPS doesn't have anything with content. :D

So beacuse 3 games we expect that all games will have 30 fps instead of 60 fps on PS4/XB1, even if all other 3rd party games have same FPS on Switch and PS4/XB1!? Also FPS really depends from devs, of course that NBA 2K18 also could be 60 fps on Switch if devs wanted and sacrifice game graphically more in favor for 60 FPS. Thats not how its working, 2x slower CPU doesn't mean automatically 2x lower frame rate, game could have same FPS despite slower CPU if you sacrifice graphics more. In that case, why Skyrim isnt 15 FPS on Switch instead of 30FPS same like it is on PS4/XB1, or why Rocket League on Switch inst 30FPS instead of 60FPS same like on PS4/XB1.

This news is bigger than just these to games comi g to the Switch. It sends a big message to other developers that you can release all the new games on this wonderful machine. I will likely get both games, even though I have Doom already.

This message will only be delivered when enough Switch owners actually buy them. Porting games of that level to a weaker system is relatively costly. So not meeting the sales target would send the wrong kind of message instead.

Hopefully us Switch owners will continue to be in the bying mood, like we have been so far 🙂.
