NintenDominion: Nintendo Switch Lite Announced, Coming 9/20/19

So I guess we have confirmation after this E3 that Retro was either twiddling their thumbs for the past 5 years or else whatever they had in development went horribly wrong to the point of complete abandonment. To be completely honest, I'm not sure I have a whole lot of faith in them with MP4 at this point. Clearly some major issues have been up with their dev team. At the very least, they could have just given us another DKC for Switch in all this time.

Yeah Retro have a lot to prove now that it's been over five years since the last evidence of them being a competent studio.

It's sad to see how far they've fallen when they were once among the best devs in the industry.

Aww, seems like a wasted opportunity.

Some days I just blow up.

Looks like Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled on Switch is a good port.

Actual gameplay closely resembles the PS4 version, just with the fur effects missing and the resolution lowered, a lot like the N.Sane Trilogy. Seems like the whole game is on the card just like the Trilogy also.

[EDIT: Video removed; Activision is copyright-striking gameplay videos, so if I post a new one it will doubtless be swiftly taken down as well, but if you're curious I'm sure you can find more Switch footage on Youtube]

Missed this before. GameXplain's tour of the Nintendo booths at this year's E3.

I wish I was there!! :D

Apparently Link's Awakening is being made by Grezzo, which means Mario Maker 2 is the only game this year actually produced by EPD.

I mean, I can't complain cos there is a metric fuckton of games coming to Switch this year, but Nintendo's core studios aren't being very produtive of late. In fact, looking at their gameography, EPD have not released a big-budget new game since Mario Odyssey in 2017.

EPD had a megaton year in 2017. That year, they released Odyssey, Breath of the Wild + the DLC, and Splatoon 2, three of their big , top tier IPs and system sellers. (Not to mention all the smaller stuff they had the last two years like ARMS and Labo.) It’s unrealistic and unreasonable to expect those teams to just pump out games of that calibur and level every 1-2 years. Big projects and games of that calibur and status takes a lot time and we already know what two of them are up to. The Breath of the Wild team is obviously working on the sequel, the Splatoon 2 team is working on Animal Crossing: New Horizons. (Both franchises are done by the same team.) That just leaves the Odyssey team working on whatever the next 3D Mario game is (Assuming they’re not the same team making or at least partially responsible behind Mario Maker 2.) It hasn’t even been two years since Odyssey came out. Whatever they have cooking will be ready to be shown when it’s ready, and considering how this is Mario we’re talking about, I don’t think we have anything to worry about.

Completly understandable when they managed to tune out 4 games (Arms, Splatoon 2, BOtW and Super Mario Odyssey). There's time needed to reload your ammunitions ;)

And I'd say the release of AC in March next year will start it's year pretty nicely.

Its co-developed so hard to say how much work they did on that.

EPD made New Super Mario Bros also this year though that was only a port.

They are still working on Animal Crossing so a lot of the ressources are located there.

Also it could very well be that BotW is already past the pre-production stage so it also requires more and more staff, while smaller groups are probably working on next 3D Mario and Splatoon 3 or a Mario Kart 9 and who knows what else.

While they did not have a big-budget release in 2018 the wheel of game development never stops turning and just like for every other dev out there HD development requires more time.
