Forums - Gaming Discussion - Phil Spencer: relationship with Nintendo is “incredibly strong”

Its not point if its bad or not, point is that Nintendo wouldn't done that, you want see any Nintendo IPs on Sony or MS platforms probably never.

Isn't that kinda sad though? I mean MS is nice enough to port their games to Nintendo devices but Nintendo wouldn't even consider porting theirs. Sounds like a pretty abusive relationship to me.

Well only example that we have is Minecraft, and Minecraft was already multiplatform game before MS buy it, so they just continue releasing it on other platforms also. Also MS will release plenty of their games on PC also. You dont see Sony is doing something similar, not to mention Nintendo that is much more aggressive when comes to their IPs.

Yes, but isn't it kinda sad that only one out of three companies considers sharing their IPs with as many as possible gamers?

Well depends how you look, if Sony, MS and Nintendo start releasing their IPs on every console, easily biggest loser would be Nintendo because 90% people buying their consoles to play their games on 1st place. Second biggest loser would be Sony beacuse it has more and bigger IPs than MS.

Just because two people have the same opnion doesn't mean they are right. They don't have a strong relationship outside of collaborating on one thing. That's closer to a one night stand. If they partnered and shared their games on eachother's platforms, I would call that a strong relationship.

Its good to know your head of Nintendo and MS so you know how they feel about each other.

So is this a new thing from the Sony group on this site?. "Ok guys if lots of positive news start coming out from MS call them liers, if asked to show how they are lying, deflect the question by repeating the words Phil is a lier!".

It a minor pr stunt. No one is buying it. I explained how ms is lying in a different post to someone else in this thread.

It would be awesome if they really got close and maybe shared some content.

Incase people forgot MS has put their IP on GBA and DS. Its possible MS even owns the original DKC games which have been on virtual console.

I imagine MS got permission to create Rare replay using NES and N64 emulators.

Why would they lose though when a lot more people are buying their games?

Also if no one would buy a Nintendo console if it hadn't exclusive games on it maybe Nintendo is doing something wrong.

He's in it too deep.  I'm starting to think he might believe some of the things he's been saying.  Some outlandish statements this past year or so.

Boy, Spencer is just frantically throwing anything against a wall to see if it will stick these past few days. Unfortunately for him, it seems to only be working on the same small group that tries to defend his words.

Way to spoil a warm moment, guys.

That insecurity and desperation has really increased post E3, guess MS had a good show!

Because less people would buy their hardware and hardware addons, and software for that same hardware. If that's better option they would become 3rd party long time ago.

Of Course that much less people would buy Nintendo consoles if their games are also available on PS or MS consoles.

If its ports of older games I think Nintendo should consider it. It's not going to hurt Switch sales at all and they get a lot more in return than they're giving and might even give them a few new Metroid or Fire Emblem fans.

Yeah in the past things weren't done a certain way, but 4-5 years ago if asked here, the idea of (real) Nintendo games on iOS/Android probably would have been a similar "no way".

What you think and what Nintendo is thinking or what they will do, are two different things.

First, smartphone gaming become bigger than console gaming and Nintendo couldn't ignore it any more, second, we dont have real Nintendo games on iOS/Android, those are smartphone games not full Nintendo games, and third, Nintendo was very clear about why they releasing mobile games, because they want in that way to make bridge between mobile and full console games and to use it like market tool for Nintendo consoles and their full games. If you release Metroid Prime on on Xbox thats one reason less for some people to buy Nintendo console and than people would be start expecting also another Nintendo IPs on Xbox.

In any case it won't happen, it's not realistic scenario at all.

Are you looking closely..

I have followed Videogaming from the start.. And from where i'm stand.. I think MS and Nintendo working together makes very much sense for both companys.. Not only becourse Switch and One are the most different "consols" that we have ever seen i Videogaming.. but mostly becourse of the next 10 years and future to come.

First of all.. I'm 100% sure that the biggest reason MS started Xbox.. was an atemt to (with time) to be like android and ios are for smathphones for TV's.. Meaning earning money on lots of other things than games.. With how good the smartphones has become and things like cromecast.. that marked is gone. MS have tried again and again to break into it with Windows mobil.. Not with any real luck..

We all know that pc's are becomming less and less important for the mass marked and MS can see that even windows will face a hard time against android and ios the next 10 years.

Then there is Nintendo.. Nintendo has by fare the most apelling gaming ip's for the mass marked.. but they are only good at games.. not all the other things that people today expect.. the online infra stucture.. OS and PR (outside gaming) And they also lack the contacks MS have.

And now it comes..

I could see MS.. Nintendo and even Nvidia making a "total partnership" (not that money should be split in 3) where they try to take on ios and android.

Nvidia.. does not earn any today outside hardware.. so for them it would makes sense.

Nintendo.. can get a much better deal.. than just selling on android and ios.

MS will have a "final shot" to be relevant in the future.

This reminds me of this:

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/more-details-on-when-microsoft-tried-to-partner-wi/1100-6441237/

It wont happen. The development mentality and scope of Nintendo's ambition are totally different than what MS has in plans. I understand that Phil is in a hard spot, but come on. Statements like these simply make him less credible. And what about this quote:

"...relationship between Nintendo and I..."

What is up with this? The relationships between him and Nintendo? Like is he a fan? What does that have to do with what relationship MS has with Nintendo? Absolutely pointless talk from a soon to be pointless bloke.
