There's isn't a lot of competition right now, so it isn't too difficult for an AAA game to hit #1.

However, since Nintendo games usually sell very poorly in the UK, this is quite good.

i read on gaf that it had a better debut than MK7 & MK8

Better than MK7? That's a good sign for the popularity of the Switch in the UK.

idk how accurate this site is for UK sales but we have MK8 over MK7 in FW sales.

I suppose MK8 is more popular among gamers (=FW buyers) because it's a better game, and MK7 has sold more lifetime because it's on a more popular console.

Pokemon Sun/Moon didn't make it? Or X/Y, or MK8, Smash Bros, 3DWorld?

I'm very surprised if Nintendo really haven't had a game debut 1st in over 5 years.

I am not surprised at all.

UK is the weakest market for Nintendo like many have told already.

Wii U sales were depressing, I wouldn't expect any major release from the system hit the #1 spot with such small userbase.

3DS even with respectful sales and a big franchise were no match for big multiplat releases with a huge install base and Pokemon is counted as 2 different SKU's.

Nope, not on the combined charts because they were counted as separate SKU's... and released at a much more competitive time of year.

See here

note: it is kind of bogus that Sun/Moon are not counted together in some instances. They are literally the same game with a slight variation and people almost always (in terms of lifetime charts) combine mirror Pokemon games (Gold/Silver, Red/Blue, etc.)

You could argue some people double dip. Maybe even some more. See it this way: if the sales are counted split, Nintendo has TWO top-sellers at once.

I just noticed that your signature says sub for sub. I would just like to point out that YouTube has an algorithm that punishes channels that do this. It gives your channel less traction as it considers your subs as illegitimate. You need people to respond to your videos. Having people sub to your channel means nothing if no one is paying attention to the content.

On topic:
Like others have pointed out, I am surprised that none of the Pokemon games managed to reach #1 in the UK in the last five years.

Nintendo Switch has secured its first UK No.1 with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

In fact, it's the first Nintendo boxed game to get to No.1 since 2011, when the format holder topped the charts with Pokémon White on DS. It's also the first Mario game to reach the top of the charts since Mario Kart Wii in 2008.
