Forums - Gaming Discussion - The lack of continuous chatter about the PS4 Pro should teach Microsoft about scorpio

I've been speaking to quite a few Xbox and PS4 fans outside of VGChartz. Petty differences aside, there should be a lesson learned. Its good to have a next gen refresh all around because at maximum for this generation the goal should've been 1080p resolution 60fps in general. Regardless of 4k which I believe should've remained as a next gen thing. Now because of this, the next gen consoles will have higher standards expected of them by creating a situation that started far too early. With that said, the chatter will start out of anticipation but after the scorpio drops people will focus on games once more and it will be business as usual. The console realm is not the PC realm. Games mean more to us over here and always have compared to parts and overt customization. Around mid gen until the end of the gen, library and lower prices. It influences late adopters who waited for a better price and want a deeper library of games. It  is more imporant on any side of the tracks (in the console realm) than how much of a power boost is gained and I believe the lack of chatter over the PS4 should tell that story to anyone thinking people will continue to brag about graphics between the Xbox One and PS4. Console gamers should remember what makes them different. The ways could be listed outside of the fact that we like games. I think Microsoft (like Sony) knows these consoles will be for the premium crowd, Microsoft in general needs to get their act together with new IP, because it comes down to it new IP's represent the consoles singular identity.

Oh boy, don't you get tired of making these arguments? You've said this same stuff many times before.
I know this because you seem to be in most Scropio related threads.

MS like Sony is doing a mid gen upgrade, MS just happens to be making the superior machine.

Why are you lumping the power of Scorpio and 1st party games into the same argument? Its not like Scorpio's power means less new IPs.

Lastly, I see Scropio as a long term plan. It may phase out the X1 S when it hits $299.

I think he means that just because we're getting a new powerful mid grade machine, doesn't negate the fact that it's missing exclusives. We haven't heard anything from MS yet about exclusives. Then again, E3 is a couple of months away.

I get what he's saying, but that dosen't have anything to do with Scorpio. There would still be complaints about exclusives regardless of Scropio.

Its safe to assume we'll see some new exclusives along with Scorpio at E3.

Well, I think the biggest difference between Sony and MS here is not the specs but what each company expects that machine to accomplish.  Sony was looking to expand to certain audiences, providing a product they didn't expect to necessarily be a massive success but would supplement Playstation's earnings nicely.  MS seems to be putting most if not all their eggs in the Scorpio basket, expecting it to be a massive difference maker and push Xbox back into competition with Sony.  So the Scorpio doesn't mean fewer new games because of the power, but rather it seems the power and not the games are what they are betting on.

And I agree that MS should take a hard look at the Pro.  The Pro is what it is: a succesful but not massively succesful product that appeals to a minority subset of current Playstation consumers and it's the exclusives and diverse ecosystem and excellent marketing that primarily push the Playstation brand forward.  I firmly believe the Scorpio's future can be seen in the Pro's present.

Thank you. Console gamers in general can relate in some way when we deal with gaming. Some are more hardcore than others and these refresh consoles are meant for those people (like some of us perhaps who have been used to higher resolutions already because of PC). The best way to get these companies to work for us is if they all compete on the highest level with games. They all have identities to protect and need to have something special about themselves exclusives to differentiate themselves from the third party which they both have in almost equal abudance. Nintendo has proven with the Wii that individual experience and exclusivity can draw many to your platform. Sony has done this and Microsoft somewhat did this with the kinect. When we focus on what matters we can push one another to be better whilst the war for marketshare dominance continues.

MS and Sony both took a stab at mid gen upgrades and MS is simply doing better at it. It also earned them some bragging rights just like PS4 had for years.

Its also worth noting multiplat are among the most popular titles on both platforms, therefore Scorpio should also be able to boast about having the best versions.

I totally agree X1 should work on getting more exclusives, but that has little if anything to do with Scorpio.

I'm not sure what this means.  Are you trying to fit all gamers into two incredibly broard generalizations?

How so? MS went for the more expensive and powerful option, but it's probably going to sell less than the Pro. Is MS going to consider that as doing better?
