Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Switch is the fastest-selling Nintendo console in European history

It'll be interesting to see if it can keep up this pace. It's a good start, but that's all it is really. Now they have to show off some more games for the rest of the year between now and the release of the new Mario.

What do people mean when they say the Switch was "rushed and unfinished"?

Are they referring to the lack of ability to browse FaceBook, watch reruns of Parks and Rec, and play Super Mario Bros. 2 on it?

This made me crack up

OT. Congrats to Nintendo for such a successful launch. Now only comes the hardest part...

I've only highlighted the title thread and what the article in the OP says. If that goes against what other sources say it's another debate, and an interesting one.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

You should post comparable launches in the OP in order to be able to easily gauge this success.

We need to see the legs, the console released with Zelda it was bound to sell a lot. Now we need to sell if in the coming months it'll sell well cause it seens like there aren't many games comming, and it needs that 3rd party developer support to be sucessfull and we still don't know if itll have it.

This is good, this shows that people still care about portables, I didnt think it would beat Wii glad it did.

Than 'any other hardware', handhelds included?

Releasing a rushed unfinished console with a legion ready to defend it has its perks I guess.

Actually the console itself is really cool. Yes, I know the dock sucks. It can scratch the screen, but overall I was really impressed with the switch.

It was at least good to know that beforehand. I've put some plastic inbetween the rails and screen while docking it for now, since my screen protector seems to be delayed. I might put some felt on them down the line. Not something that should have to be fixed by the user, but at least it's pretty easily fixable.

Joy-con issue on the other hand while fixable needs opening the Joy-Con possibly voiding warranty and soldering. I've had no issues with it so far though.

Impressive so far, but launch isn't everything.. Nintendo really needs to keep the momentum up for the Switch to suceed

This is great! So UK seems particularly poor compared to other regions. Congrats Nintendo!

UK is also in Europe. It sold over 325,000 for all we know, and aprox 80,000 in UK. Europe has a population of 735 million. UK has a population of 64 million. So, no, it did not do bad in UK. It should have sold only 30,000 there, for interest to be the same as the rest of Europe. So, UK was a strong launch and contributed a lot to the system's sales (almost 25% of all European sales, despite having less than 10% of Europe's population).

You can't calculate it fairly that way because the UK is a very strong gaming region historically with a higher disposable income than many areas of Europe where sales will be lower. Normally I think you'd expect consoles to sell better in the UK than France for example but the UK is actually a strong market for Microsoft and so its splits down sales somewhat.

This is all too early to assese anyway we need to see a couple of months of sales figures to see a pattern.

It is looking very positive though which justifies Nintendo's high pricing and even if momentum slows Nintendo can bundle or price cut fairly quickly if they have to perhaps September for the build up for Christmas.

Zelda is such an amazing game for a launch. I rember Super Mario World on snes and Mario 64 on N64 being amazing and Zelda BOTW seems as good as those.

Was just reading this in the newspaper. Or well, it's online version. I mean, it's 2017 afterall. Anyway besides that it said that here in Holland retailers sold "thousands", are sold out and are expecting a new big shipment later this month.

Good news for Nintendo. Hopefully for them it stays good. Zelda's also been doing it's job well it seems. Which, being a Zelda fan, is always great to hear.
