The Nintendo Switch is the first console/handheld hybrid, and also the start of the ninth generation.
Saying that, what are we going to do with the Nintendo Switch and the charts? Will we just smack it with everything else until the PS5/Scorpio/XB2 releases? Will it be compared to home consoles or handhelds?
Regardless if it is primarily a home or portable console, It should replace Wii U and be billed as a home console. At this point Switch is replacing Wii u, while the 3DS still has some life left within it, and possibly another Pokemon game.
Bet with Intrinsic:
The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

gen 2: famicom
gen 3: Super famicom/nes
gen 4: snes
gen 5: virtual boy/n64
gen 6: gamecube
gen 7: wii
gen 8: wii u
gen 9: Switch
gen 10: Nintendo nx ;P
The Wii-U needs to go since its market share doesn't impact the market since there are (almost) no new games in development.
The 3DS still has upcoming games and is clearly still a player in the market but it is also the 9nth generation and all the processing is done in a handheld format, either way where and how VGChartz places it doesn't really matter. The Wii-U needs to go and the switch needs to enter.

You'll notice that Nintendo is prone to releasing multiple platforms in one generation when a platform falls flat on its face. Switch is their 8th Gen mulligan.
Case in point: Virtual Boy and Gameboy Color.

They waited five years for the Wii U and Switch though. It's not like the virtual boy where they ditched it almost immediately.
I think replacing the Wii U would make sense since production has completely halted, whereas the 3DS is still going..

Right, except the majority of console manufacturers are still releasing the same consoles and "mid-gen refresh" consoles. People can claim Switch is 9th Gen, but we're still in the thick of 8th Gen.

Switch is a eight gen Nintendo console competing with Microsofts third gen xbox and Sonys fourth gen playstation.
OP- I think it should just be replaced with the Wii U because its competing with the PS4 and Xbox 1.
