360 saw a huge surge in sales during the holiday season Kinect came out. About 1.5m more consoles sold than the holiday season before it. That's no $150, that's $300 for the arcade bundle and $400 for the elite bundle.

I don't really see how that proves your point, it just shifts the variables.

As i said, i don't believe a comparably priced PSVR would have sold as well as the Kinect. I just don't understand how you can wave away something being so much more expensive. Even if you already own a PS4, PSVR's minimum entry fee is still $100 more.

Again, i don't believe a $150 PSVR would have done as well as the Kinect, but at $150 you'd literally be able to buy a PS4 with the saved money. If tomorrow Sony revealed a "Buy a PSVR, get a PS4 free" promotion, do you not think it'd boost PSVR's sales in any meaningful way?

I don't wave away anything. I know it's more expensive, I know that it has a negative impact on sales. The question was, does the 267% more expensive peripheral explain the ~1000% difference in sales.

Yes, clearly Sony should have sold it for $100-150 losing hundreds of dollars on each unit sold. Great point. How did we all not see this?

Once again. Internet people > Sony

You should read much more carefully. In the post I quoted there were three different points why the sales are how they are.

1. marketing
2. price
3. availability

I mentioned marketing and availability. Nowhere did I mention price, so why do you attack me on that?

No need to play the victim card. Especially after the tone you displayed with your response to a statement that clearly focused on price and you made it all about marketing and supply.

You should take your own advice and try to read more carefully as well.

So you're saying Sony is to blame for these low sales for not marketing it well and not having enough manufactured to be shipped to retailers? Gotcha.

Might wanna read over this again Barozi because you just invented a paradox.

Has low sales

Not marketed well

Their fault for selling out everywhere?

Low sales in comparison to Kinect, yes.
Otherwise I said the exact same thing as the poster I quoted. You made it seem like these are my words, but no, if anyone invented a paradox it's the guy I quoted.

Jesus Christ. Okay, got another advice for you. Read the thread from beginning to end. Then stop! Take a minute to think. THEN make another post (if you want). Because everything you say about what I said or didn't say is incredibly wrong.
Nowhere did I imply that Sony should've lowered the price, absolutely nowhere. I already accept that price is a big factor for sales. Always have. That's why I "made it all about marketing and supply". Because I accepted the point about price ages ago. No point in discussing that any further.
If it was so "clearly" then why try to diminish the success of Kinect by saying "oh Sony had supply issues" and "oh Microsoft had a far bigger and better marketing push". That's the big fucking irony of the post that I was pointing at.
The two things that Sony really IS accountable for, marketing and supply, are also used as defense why a Sony product is selling so much worse. Again, that's the irony.
Btw. to clarify even more, which I already did in my previous post. These aren't my words. I have no idea about supply issues or how the PSVR was marketed. No opinion about that, because I don't care. I was using that guys own words against him. Nothing more.

Also I feel like I have nothing more to add to this thread, as I'm repeating myself over and over again already.

Yeah these numbers even surprised Sony, they were expecting it to be lower.

A mobile hentai game for Japan with VR. Records would be broken left and right!

you're thinking short term.  What happens when all the Japanese people stop making babies and live in their VR hentai?  You lose your userbase eventually!

Damn, didn't think about that! Okay, so they need to take it slow then. If the Japanese population dwindles, I'll lose out on about 50% of the weird stuff on youtube, and that's not good!

I think there's been a misunderstanding. When you continued to focus on that point after i'd already said i don't believe a a comparably priced PSVR would have sold as well as the Kinect, it seemed like you were totally disregarding it as a significant variable.

So, we looking at ~1.1M shipped? Not bad for something that costs $400 all by itself. Once it hits $299, sales should pick up, too.

As opposed to the estimated 243k for the Oculus Rift and 420k for the HTC Vive, such a tiny number indeed.

Seen in that light, its actually doing pretty well compaired to the other VR headsets.

also:

"Sony’s internal goal was to sell one million of the headsets in its first six months, by mid-April. The company will almost certainly surpass that forecast."

Yea but what happens after 6 months is the true test.

4 months means this had a holiday already. And it had it's early adaptors, tech guys ect already jump on board.

I wouldn't be surprised if this thing never reaches 2 million. $400 is a lot of money to pay for a novelty. It will need a lot more RE7's to have legs.
