Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony has sold 915k PSVR units to date

Only further proves that VR is a very niche part of the gaming industry.

Kinect was at ~9 million after the same time. Sure it wasn't quite as expensive but does that really explain that difference in sales? I think not. And we know how the bad the support for it was.

What might explain the difference is that Xbox/Kinect together at launch costs $100 less than a PSVR headset alone.

A $300 PSVR/PS4 combo would transition the industry over night.

pretty awful numbers, and yes oculus and vive are even worse. Those sort of numbers do not justify game development costs. VR, at least this gen, looks to be going the way of the dodo and 3D TV.

I couldn't agree more. The biggest problem is the price. Prephirials/add ons shouldn't cost more than 200 dollars.

For a pricey peripheral with very few noteworthy titles and continuous production / stock issues....1m in 4 months seems pretty good.

Someone should make a porn game already, something like playboy mansion. I guess that would sell good IMO

Why would you say they're awful numbers? I can understand the argument that it's not enough to justify game development, but i wouldn't consider 900k+ PS4 owners being willing to spend $400 on a peripheral within 4 months of its launch "awful". What would you consider "fine", 2+ million?

I think these numbers are far from amazing, but they seem pretty good given the price and limited market. They give me faith that a cheaper gen 2 PSVR could do well.

Pretty good since Sony expects 1m by April and has kept the shipments limited so as not to take losses from manufacturing too many. If shipments hadn't been limited it might already be 1m by now, but at least their won't be VR units sitting in a warehouse making a loss.

2-3 million is what i was expecting and what i think developers would need to see to start making significant investments. Developers are business's and need business justification for investment and 1 million just doesn't cut it

Porn is the only future for in-home VR, and as Playstation is closed off to porn applications, ultimately the only long term viable platform for VR is PC and / or a dedicated Porn streaming device.

A mobile hentai game for Japan with VR. Records would be broken left and right!

As i said, i understand the development argument (even if i only particularly agree), but why would you expect 2 - 3 million? That'd be decent for a proper console, let alone a $400 peripheral.
