Will the Switch outsell the PS4 in Japan?

In Japan, Yes! 357 78.46%

In Japan, No! 98 21.54%

Total:455

It had better outsell PS4, if it doesn't that will be very bad for the Japanese console market. Switch has to sell to both the home console and handheld user base, The handheld user base is clearly larger than the Sony home console user base. If the handheld user base stays away from Switch in Japan then that's a major problem.

Considering its a handheld I'd imagine it will. And it really should too.

Plus Nintendo will release a barebones sku that costs $200 and can't be played on the big screen in the next 1-2 years and that will do very well.

But why? Giving a device the ability to output video isn't expensive in the slightest.

If you mean one that isn't bundled with a dock then yeah sure, but removing the devices ability to actually use a dock wouldn't really cut costs at all. The only reason for that would be if Nintendo couldn't be arsed to sell docks seperately, though we already know they're going to do that.

In that case it will keep the connection to the TV but be barebones and cost $200. It makes the most sense.  Price is key.

You might aswell ask whether Switch will be a failure or can it clear the first hurdle? It's like asking (before release) whether PS4 can outsell WiiU in Northern America. It's pointless.

Looking at the current trends it's clear Switch has to outsell PS4 by large margin or the japanese video game market will be in trouble. This Switch vs PS4 is the wrong matchup, it should be Switch vs 3DS and most likely a decline is coming. How big decline, well that decides whether Switch will be crowned a success or not. Outselling PS4 by a small margin would be a huge loss for Nintendo.

edit: added some stuff I forgot

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

Switch has to sell 18-20 million in Japan for that ecosystem to have any chance of real success, so yes, it has to outsell the PS4.

This is not even an option for them. If they can't manage that they're done as a hardware maker.

I don't think that is true, it could do lower numbers than that in Japan but be a huge success elsewhere and be a strong even leading format. It's quite a bulky and expensive portable with short battery life its not a given it will succeed in Japan although does seem the market most likely for it to succeed at this point.

Well for now thatd not as obvious as people thought , its not selling liké à handheld as i thought, WE wont know if it can do better than PS4 until Mario Kart i Guess

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

It won't just beat the PS4, it will trounce the PS4 in Japan.

Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Splatoon, Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter, Mario, Smash, etc. on one portable platform = game over. If Nintendo can't sell the Switch in Japan something is very, very wrong.

Even the battery life issue is not really a long term issue, they could very easily have use a 16nm Tegra in the future that would give you 5-7 hours of battery using the same battery size they have now. Nvidia even already has the chip finished.

The Switch should handily murder the PS4 in Japan, but it won't outsell it in the rest of the world, I think it will lag quite far behind globally despite taking Japan with a large margin.

More than likely, the Switch will fly past the PS4.

Not hard to chase PS4 on the rest of the world also. This time it will easily run past XB1 and get close to PS4's worldwide numbers.

Nintendo has learned the lesson, and no way Pokemon, Metroid, Smash brothers, Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter Mario Maker etc etc, will be left out. Those titles alone can make the Switch reach 50+ Million consoles in 3 to 4 years.
