But why? Giving a device the ability to output video isn't expensive in the slightest.

If you mean one that isn't bundled with a dock then yeah sure, but removing the devices ability to actually use a dock wouldn't really cut costs at all. The only reason for that would be if Nintendo couldn't be arsed to sell docks seperately, though we already know they're going to do that.

In that case it will keep the connection to the TV but be barebones and cost $200. It makes the most sense.  Price is key.
