Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch preorders go live in Japan - and are gone in minutes

Yeah, bic cameras site was down for a good 2 hours since the preorders went live, managed to preorder the console (red and blue ver), charging grip, and red+blue straps to replace the included black ones.

Title isn't entirely accurate, Ito yokado (omni7.jp) had both sku's of the console in stock for about an hour and a half, bic camera had both sku's in for about 45 minutes and the black controller version for a little over an hour.

At least, from what I could see on the odd occasion the page would actually load.

See my post abvove.

The point is that sold out stock at launch means nothing. PS4 for example was hardly available even months after release. Let's see how the Switch fares before we're making wild claims of a runawayy success.

I agree that we need to wait a few months before stating that. But there are both people praising the Switch for selling this "well", and those downplaying it no matter what. In both cases, people should wait until the Switch has had more time on the market before concluding anything.

We don't know overall stock levels for Japan, let alone individual outlet stock numbers, but selling out isn't much of an indicator for Japan, for example the psvr there was similarly gone in minutes and hasn't been in stock since, some major outlets have even taken the console off of their pages to reduce the number of calls asking when stock will be available, but sales overall of the psvr have been relatively tiny in Japan, largely due to the low stock numbers and the seemingly non-existant resupply numbers.

We won't know until Nintendo releases some solid numbers, really.

Oh wow! I thought the Price would bother them as well!

Isn't the price more along the lines os 250$ in japan? I don't think that's as prohibitive at launch.

Considering how most Japanese people don't mind getting a $600-800+ phone, I'm sure they'll enjoy getting a switch if it lets them play better games on the go

At today's rate the Japanese price (with tax) is about $283.

That would be consistent with what we know. The people the most interested in the Switch are the usual Nintendo fans. Nintendo fans are not kids anymore, it's the people who grew up with Nintendo and are now in their 20s or 30s. Nintendo needs to interest a new demographic, especially kids, but they're having trouble with it.

He also said online shopping is a big thing in japan as well.

As for what you said, it could be more than that as well. Nintendo appears to be marketing towards millennials as shown in their initial teaser. But this is a sample for now so, as usual, we don't know the full picture. We didn't know Animal Crossing was that popular among women (Japan at least) until Nintendo brought it up.

I wouldn't be suprised if the swith sells most in Japan and bombs in other markets, so no suprise, I am predicting the Switch will outsell the PS4 in Japan but won't outsell the Xbox One in the US.

Europe is a mixed-bag they are generally favoured towards ps4 and if the price drops low enough the Switch might become the ideal companion to the PS4. But only time will tell.

That's one of the many problems they have...I had quite a bit influence on my kids' gaming habits, so they love Nintendo games (especially Zelda, Mario and Kirby), but they are getting older and want to play games that are not on Nintendo systems due to lack of 3rd party support. Inevitably, if Nintendo does not offer solution for such kids, they will move away from them.
